DIY | Peel N’ Stick wall with Stikwood

Hello friends!!

Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments about the new paint color on the barn door in our kitchen!! Seriously, it came out so much better than I anticipated. It feels like the new color was meant to be in our kitchen. I referred to painting the barn door in our kitchen, as “cutting bangs”. You know when you are just ready for a change, and you think bangs will solve all your problems ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes that’s true, and sometimes a little more oomph is needed! While today I’m sharing that Oomph!! I created a new accent wall in our kitchen with peel n’ stick wood planks from Stikwood! Yes you read that right – Peel N’ Stick! And I am in love with how it turned out.

Come and see ~

You might be wondering which wall I chose. I know this may seem like a shock to most, but honestly it’s been a change I’ve been contemplating for the last couple of years. Just silently in my head of course, but an ongoing conversation non-the-less. I honestly wondered for a long time if I would ever say good-bye to this wall, as it was one of my very first DIY’s, but alas the time had come to say good-bye to our beloved chalkboard wall in the kitchen.

I originally came up with this DIY solution, as a way to hide this portion of the wall that bumped out in our kitchen. Many thought it was wall paper, but it was actually a DIY chalkboard paint color I made mixing paint I already had on hand, and unsanded grout – to get that beautiful light gray chalkboard look – you could actually write on!

Over the last 2 years I found myself craving a simpler look. Something a little cleaner feeling in the space. But I wanted whatever I chose to feel like it still went with the integrity of our home.

Say hello to Stikwood!

I have actually used this product before (in my mom cave!), and I just loved it so much, I was thrilled collaborate with them again on this project. Stikwood is thin planks of REAL wood, that they make in a variety of different finishes, with a heavy duty adhesive on the back, allowing you to install them on nearly any surface, without the need of heavy duty tools.

They are a breeze to install, and go up so quickly. I was able to complete this accent wall in our kitchen in an afternoon, and the outcome was just what I needed. Clean, Simple, but full of the charm and character that I love.

One of the things I love about Stikwood most, is because the planks are thin, I don’t have to remove and of the trim work, they recess enough on the wall, they look like they were always there. Instead of being too bulky or thick, I just have to cut them to length, and they fit right in perfectly.

And it’s REAL WOOD! So when you touch it, you get all the lovely texture and feel you would expect vs. faux wood that leaves you feeling slightly disappointed with their imitation look.

I’m already envisioning what it will look like with garland hung over it for Christmas, and I can hardly wait to put it up!

I chose the HAMPTONS finish, which you can find on their website HERE, for that slightly distressed, white washed look, that has a subtle beachy feel.

I will admit, it was a little bittersweet to see the chalkboard wall go, but replacing it with a look that was equally full of character, with a slightly cleaner look made the transition so much easier, and do you want to know the sweetest thing?

All week, my sweet 11 yr. old boy tells me every time he walks by it, that he thinks the new wall looks so beautiful – he loves it too!! Ok – I think that is a mom win for sure! Thanks Stikwood for helping me still look cool in my sons eyes ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s one more look ~

BEFORE + AFTER

Can you guess what I have my eyes on next to change in our kitchen?!

    Bre,
I have never commented on your posts, but this week I decided I would. Love that barn door you painted this week. It really pops!
I love the new wall in your kitchen. Adds that extra texture. You are very handy, too! I have done some painting, but would never tackle installing a wall!
Two years ago we gutted our breezeway. We covered our walls with shiplap and added a wooden plank ceiling. We already had a terracotta colored tile floor. It is my favorite room to decorate! An old church pew provides seating and two wooden boxes (made by my husband from old flats) that hold boots and yardwork shoes fit perfectly under the pew. Four windows have black & white buffalo check valances.
I enjoy reading all about your home. I have made a few purchases at one of your favorite places, Purple Rose Home and it is from them that I found out about you and your book, The Gift of Gathering. Often look at it for inspiration!
    Stay safe and healthy!
    Dot

Ohhh Dot, thank you so much!! You have no idea how much JOY your comment has given me. I’m so glad my book has provided inspiration. Your breezeway sounds amazing! Honestly, every detail you described sounds just perfect to me! I can see why it’s your favorite place to decorate! It would be mine too.
