I think it’s no secret that I love setting the table. Oh if my grandma could hear me know, because I used to roll my eyes every time she would ask me to when I was a kid – sorry gram! Perhaps if only she worded in such a way that had me believing I was creating a tablescape I would have been more interested back then. But you know what, I think tablescape can feel like a fancy word sometimes, when in reality I’m just over here setting the table, trying to remember which side of the plates the forks go on – it’s the left by the way 🙂 This tablescape I created around my cinderella pumpkin in yesterdays blog post just stemmed from a place of setting the table, but with a little more attention to detail. So today I’m breaking down the details, and the sources, for my cinderella pumpkin tablescape.
Let’s get started ~
Detailed Source List included at the bottom of the post.
This tablescape was completely put together with the idea of blending sophisticated details with a casual feel. I love the juxtaposition of these two styles blended together for this cozy, relaxed table with a touch of elegance. Whenever I’m creating a tablescape I always keep a few things in mind.
Mood. Inspiration. Color.
Even though I am just simply setting the table, I can create the mood I want by setting the scene. Once I have determined the mood, or i.e. feeling, I want my gathering to have, I look for inspiration that will compliment the atmosphere I’m wishing to create. Do I want my gathering to feel casual, cozy, low-key, romantic, or festive? Once I know the mood I want to evoke, I’m able to choose my tablescape components based off of that feeling.
Inspiration is everywhere! Maybe it’s from a recent trip you took, or restaurant you dined in? Are you inspired by a certain era? Like the roaring 20’s, or perhaps a scene from your favorite historic movie or show? Did you see a photo recently of a beautifully set table that you wish to recreate? Sometimes I only need one tiny detail of inspiration, and then the rest of my tablescape evolves from there. In this case it was my centerpiece I created for my live workshop.
I knew this cinderella pumpkin centerpiece would be the main focal point of my table, so I wanted to use accompaniment pieces that would allow my centerpiece to shine. I kept the rest of the centerpiece simple. Only adding a few candlesticks and some smaller white pumpkins scattered around the candles was all I needed.
Since the glassware I chose was more elegant, I opted for simple wood candlesticks, instead of my antique brass candlesticks I’m known for using this time of year. I wanted my tablescape to feel collected and cozy but not too over the top as you would in a formal sit down meal. Blending the look throughout the entire table, of this mix-matched approach is what helped me achieve the feeling I was going for.
Here are 3 examples from this tablescape to show you just how I completed the juxtaposition between casual and elegant.
- Fine China Plates paired with transferware bowls, layered on top of simple wood chargers.
- Elegant flatware + shimmery napkin rings opposite casual table linens.
- Shiny vintage glassware mixed with raw wood candlesticks.
Every special touch adds to the ambiance and overall experience of your gathering.
