Hello Friends!
Today I am joining in the celebration with my friend Melissa, from The Inspired Room, as her newest book is about to release! I’m not going to lie, I gasped out loud when I saw a sneak peak of the cover on Melissa’s Instagram stories weeks ago, and I knew if it was anything like her previous books, it would be filled with the most beautiful, heart felt encouragement. That’s just the type of person Melissa is. She exudes encouragement. So to help me friend celebrate her newest book, A Lovely Life, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite ways I like to savor every season in our home, and hopefully encourage you to as well! And be sure to scroll to the bottom, because there are some really fun GIVEAWAYS for you to ENTER as well!
Are you ready to dive in?!! ~
A Lovely Life is filled with inspiration and practical ideas to savor the simple joys around you and in your home. It offers gentle encouragement throughout to focus on being intentional with your days, ideas, tasks, and mindsets as you seek, create and savor the beauty found in every season.
I love what Melissa says about her new book! It captures the heartbeat of her new book so perfectly, and the encouragement to stop and take life in all around us ~
A lovely life isn’t an unattainable one. It’s for everyone. It’s about savoring simple pleasures at home. It’s about slowing down to a more soul-filling rhythm in every season so we don’t feel like we never can catch our breath or have time to do or even notice the things that make life feel beautiful to us.

Growing up in New England, and living with four distinct seasons it’s no wonder I love celebrating the different seasons throughout my home. So it’s no wonder I love Melissa’s seasonal approach in A Lovely Life, because it highlights each of the four seasons with a HOME*MAKING focus, and a SOUL*TENDING focus.
Home*Making
For me, one of my favorite ways to pause and savor whatever season we are in is by bringing in seasonal flowers or branches. I always wondered if it was just a silly infatuation, filling vases with seasonal flowers throughout my home, but my heart truly skips a beat the moment I walk outside, clippers in hand, and am off to gather whatever in season blooms I can find.
I realized, that for me all those years of bringing in fresh lilacs in the spring, or hydrangeas in the summertime, or boughs of cedar in the winter, was one way that encouraged me to delight in my surroundings. It refreshed my love for my home -whichever home we had at the time, and has now become a staple way I not only usher in a new season, but also pause to savor the gifts that season has to offer.
Soul*Tending
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized just how much tending my soul truly needs. In fact it’s a vital part of my everyday so that I am able to give my family my best, and not my run-down scraps. Sipping coffee out of my favorite mug. Having quiet time, in the morning with my Bible and journal – where I share my thoughts with God, and find encouragement for my day.
When my kids were little, it was not uncommon to see our living room floor covered in toys. And while I loved giving my kids the freedom to play and let curiosity grow, I learned that a quick clean up session after dinner, meant that I could fully unwind when I put my feet up at the end of the day.
I realized that as much as I wanted our kids to feel like this was their home too, that I needed the reset a clean space would provide. Much some of the women I know (and admire), can’t go to bed with dishes in the sink, for me it was putting toys away at the end of the day, that allowed my mind to turn off, and my heart to refill. Because I would definitely need to be refreshed for the next day that would be full of toddler activity.
Whatever season of life you are in, or perhaps transitioning from one to another, I know your heart will find the encouragement and inspiration it needs in Melissa’s new book. A Lovely Life isn’t just a beautiful book to look at, it’s filled with beautiful encouragement to spark joy throughout every season of the year too!

Bre,
Thank you for all the inspiration you give. I’m retiring soon at age 66 and I can look back on my life and agree with Melissa. Two things that I’d like to share is to be content with what you have and time flies so start saving now for retirement!
I wanted to mention a white paint that you might like by BM called Simply White. It’s very popular so you may have heard of it. Reveal lightbulbs can change the way a color looks too. I’m like you, can’t live with it if it’s not right, but sometimes just changing the lightbulb with Reveal saved the paint job.

Last year I wanted to do more self care and pausing and not rush rush thru life. Well it did not happen. There were many things that occurred. One being the passing of my mother. So I am trying more this year and while not easy I hope that perhaps –stopping and smelling the roses is more. :).
