Hello Friends!
It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is already here. I think by now we all know it’s no secret that I love creating tablescapes, but more importantly I love creating a welcoming table that inspires people to want to come and gather around it. To linger long after the last bite has been taken, and dessert has been served. Tablescapes don’t have to be tricky or complicated. Today I’m sharing the one thing that I think will make any table cozy, especially for Thanksgiving.
Let’s get ready to Gather ~
Sources that could be Linked are included at the bottom of the post.
Every time I start to brainstorm ideas for a tablescape I always look for one piece of inspiration to use for my starting point. Sometimes it’s a color, sometimes it’s a feeling I wish to evoke. This year it was all about texture. I was craving texture, and some of the softer colors of fall. Woven texture mixed in with different shades of creams and beige highlighting some of my favorite fall foliage.
I started by creating this DIY centerpiece with faux florals with stems in colors that I was craving, and allowed that to be my starting point. Then I grabbed these woven chargers from the Studio McGee line and Target (linked at the end of the post), and knew I was headed in the right direction. I wanted this years table to feel natural, and cozy, with a sort of whimsical – elegant feel.

To compliment the creams and beige’s in the floral arrangement I grabbed a plaid scarf I had picked up from Target a few years ago to be my base layer for this years Thanksgiving Tablescape. As simple as it sounds I always think one of the keys to creating an inviting a table is to include a cozy layer. This could mean using a tablecloth, when typically you would opt not too. Or maybe gathering a tablecloth loosely in the center of your table to act as a table runner. Or in this case a scarf. Think of different ways you might be able to incorporate a cozy layer on your Thanksgiving table this year.
Go – To TIP : Start with a tablecloth, runner, or scarf to create a cozy layer.
Next up, place settings. I already knew I wanted to use these woven chargers, so to let chargers stand out I used simple white dinner plates. Next I placed salad plates with a subtle pattern to add a little interest – and again more layers (are you noticing a theme yet :p), and topped off each place setting with white napkins gathered by woven napkin rings that add more texture, and help me achieve the overall look I was after.
I debated on using some rose gold flatware that have to compliment the other warm tones found in the centerpiece and the glassware, but opted for my favorite collected antique silverware instead. Not because the rose gold flatware was wrong, but I loved the look of mixing and matching the metal tones throughout the tablescape instead of matching them. It’s really just a personal preference of what you are in the mood for, but try mixing things up every once in a while for a more eclectic look.
While I was craving texture on the table, I also wanted to keep things simple in color to really allow the centerpiece to shine. Using a thrifted vessel, I created this centerpiece for Thanksgiving, but really it could be used all fall. The great part about it being made out of all faux stems, is I can use it year after year if I decide too.
I will be sharing the full tutorial of how I made this years centerpiece next, but in the meantime check out this one I made from flowers I found solely at Trader Joes. CLICK HERE.
I like to use two sets of glassware for Thanksgiving, or any formal meal for that matter. I fill the larger glasses with water (ahead of time), and use the smaller glasses for a specialty drink, or sparkling apple cider – which is my kids favorite! It always makes the meal feel a little more special, since you wouldn’t do this for every week night meal, and using 2 different height glassware is another way to incorporate layers.
I hope you enjoyed this years Thanksgiving Tablescape. Sources from the table are listed below :
