Hi Friends!!
Now that I have been living with my home in clean slate mode for a little bit, I’m ready to start bringing back my everyday decor into our spaces. The pieces that we live with day in and day out. The ones that I feel like they truly reflect our personal style. I started thinking about why I choose the pieces I have, and how they reflect our personal style, and it got me thinking. How are you feeling about your own home decor right now? Now that Christmas is behind us and put away, and spring has yet to come. How are you feeling about the decor in your home? Are you ready for a refresh? Do you feel like something is missing? Today I’m sharing my top decorating ideas for how to decorate your home so that it reflects your personal style.
Let’s get started ~
You know you want a change in your home, or feel like something is off, but you just aren’t even sure where to begin. Knowing where to start can sometimes be the hardest part. Especially if you feel this way about more than one room in your home. As you look around the rooms in your home, ask yourself “Does my home tell my story”?
I shared about this HERE, but one of the greatest ways we can tell our stories in our home is by decorating with pieces that reflect our personal style. Do you have a love for the beach? Or maybe the mountains? What is your family heritage? There are so many different ways we can add in decor that showcase our personal style by reflecting the things that we love, where our family is from, or our favorite hobbies.
Look around your home. Does your decor reflect you, or tell others a little bit more about who you are or the family that lives inside it. Think about the clothes you wear. Is there a certain color you gravitate towards and wear often? My sisters always joked when we were in high school at how much I always wore white. Mostly because I would inevitably spill something on myself – I also had the nickname Grace :p But even today I still love wearing white, so it’s no wonder that it’s my favorite color to paint with, and you see it in most of the decor throughout my home.
What’s your favorite color? Does it show up in your home decor? Decorating with our favorite color is a great way to reflect our personal style.
Showcase your interests.
One way to decorate your home in a way that reflects your personal style is by showcasing your interests. Do you have a love for music or photography? Choose artwork and knick knacks that showcase those interests. If you love photography a vintage camera placed on top of a stack of coffee table books, or on display in a bookcase is a great way to showcase an interest. Growing up in New England we would frequent the beach in the summer, so I decorate with treasures I’ve collected at the beach. It showcases a place I love to go, but also feels nostalgic from going to the beach every summer as a kid.
Do you have a place you love to visit? Do you have mementos or souvenirs you brought back with you? Put them on display. Not only do the reflect your personal style, but they share a little bit more about who you are and what you love.
Tell Your Family Story
In our previous home, we used a family heirloom as our coffee table. An old cedar trunk that my husbands grandfather had made, and had been passed down in the family. Not only was it the perfect size for our smaller living room, but I loved how it told a bit of family history along with it. Sometimes the best things to decorate with are the things you find along the way. That one of a kind vintage piece, or a piece of furniture that was in your grandmothers house. Even if you don’t have something that someone in your family made, think about where your family is from. What are your family roots? What is your heritage? We can incorporate pieces that speak to our families story, even if we did just find it on facebook marketplace, or that yard sale we randomly stopped at last summer.
Collecting pieces with history, help reflect your personal style, especially if they speak to where you grew up, or where your family is from.
When you think about decorating your home, and where to start, remember these 3 things:
- Look for pieces that Reflect your Personal Style
- Showcase Your Interests, Hobbies, Places you Love
- Tell Your Family Story

I love this . I like to decorate with things I really like, not necessarily what’s trendy at the time. Thank you . I learn so much from you and I love your new home !
