Hi Friend!
It’s hard to believe that summer is almost coming to end as we find ourselves in the middle of August. These past few weeks we have had the most perfect summer weather. The kind where you can’t wait to throw open the windows, or head out to the hammock in your backyard for a midday summer nap. However you have been spending your summer I hope it’s been a good one. This past week I felt so inspired to get out my camera and take a few pictures around our living room, something I haven’t done in a long time. So before the weather begins to turn and we are talking all things fall, here are a few snippets around our living room, and how I’ve styled it for summer.
Come and See ~
There is one word that comes to mind when I think about how I want our home to feel in the summer – relaxed.
I personally find refreshment in the carefree summer months, when school and sports schedules are behind us. There is nothing I want to do more than kick back and relax and enjoy a slower pace. I like to decorate our living room during the summer months in a way that encourages me to do just that!
I styled our coffee table with some of my favorite coffee table books (see all my favorites HERE), shells we’ve collected, along with a few other treasures we’ve found on different trips to the beach.
I used faux florals and greenery stems, for an easy way to have some of my favorite summer blooms last in our living room all summer long. I love bringing in real flowers, but during the summer months, most of my time is spent outdoors tending to our yard, so I like having flowers around our living room that I don’t have to worry about watering.
I placed another found shell and piece of driftwood on our side table as well, to spread the “summer” feel around our living room. I finished off the side table with on of my favorite framed photos of our son when he turned one. It’s crazy to think he is starting high school in just a couple of weeks. A faux geranium stem from Afloral tucked inside THIS seagrass vase, completes this summer time vignette.
On the far side of our living room is our DIY Console Table. This is actually the first wall you see when you walk into our living room, and helps the living room feel connected to the rest of the house.
I love to change up the decor on our console table seasonally. This summer I finally brought out the pieces of driftwood I’ve collected over the summers on our trips to the beach, and beach rocks that catch my eye.
I like to place them on books, or corralled in vases so they are out on display.

It looks so peaceful and pretty. When are so going to have a house tour, would like to see the changes. I love your home.

Thank you Marlene! I was actually just thinking the other day, I need to do an updated house tour, now after living here for 2 years. Of course there is still so much more I want to do, but slowly we have made a lot of progress 🙂

Well, you can disregard my earlier post. Just saw your sourcing notes for your drapes. Nevermind! 🤣😂

Lol no worries at all Kathy!! My living room drapes are a bit of a splurge, but I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that they are absolutely my favorite drapes I’ve ever had. That being said, I haven’t personally tried it yet, but I’ve also seen a lot of people use TWOPAGES on Amazon to create custom drapes 🙂

Bre…
Are your living room drapes custom or from what store? They are just what I am thinking for our family room. All your Sumner styling looks wonderful and so relaxing.
