Hi Friend!
This time of year I’m always itching to tackle some home projects. Or as we like to refer to them in our house – winter projects. We have been cooped up inside all winter long, and with spring still a few weeks out, now is the perfect time to cross one of those home projects off of your list. I love to get some projects done around our home that either add character or help refresh our spaces. So today I’m sharing some of my favorite home projects we’ve done in the past that could be tackled in a weekend, in case you are itching to do a home project as well!
Let’s get started ~
Add Interest to a Ceiling
Did you know that your ceiling is considered the fifth wall in your room?! Yep, that’s right. I love seeing the different ways people add interest to a ceiling, whether it’s with paint or wallpaper. I love the look of tongue and groove boards, and this DIY Shiplap is a great way to add interest to your ceiling in a budget friendly way.

P.S. it also is a great way to cover up a popcorn ceiling without having to do all that scraping!
We did this same application in a bathroom in our previous home (photographed below), but left the boards unfinished for a different effect. Whether you choose to paint or stain the boards, either way it adds warmth and character to your ceiling.

DIY Board & Batten
Adding architectural detail in the form of wall treatments is without a doubt my first choice when it comes to adding character back into a room. There are many different options out there when it comes to which style of wainscotting you choose. This DIY Board & Batten style is very beginner friendly if you haven’t tried it before, and with a few pine boards and some paint your space will instantly be transformed.

Give your Basement Staircase a Refresh
I don’t know about you but the walls that lead down to our basement always seem to take a beating. Recently I painted our staircase walls a nice dark color to hide all the handprints the kids would leave going up and down the stairs. In our last house we installed tongue and groove bead board, and it gave our basement staircase just the refresh it needed!

Nothing refreshes a room like a new coat of paint!
Try out a New Paint Color
I love the instant gratification you get when you paint a room. I’m working on painting a few spaces in our home over the next couple of weeks, and I love how instantly you feel like you have a brand new space to decorate. You can see a few Before & After below of the power of paint!

And if painting an entire room feels a little daunting, try just painting a door for a fresh new look.
Freshen up your Trim Paint
Is your trim starting to look the one in the photo below? I know it’s not a wow factor makeover and painting trim can be a tedious task. That’s why I do choose to refresh our trim paint now! Because nobody likes to do a tedious task like paint their trim when it’s sunny and 75 out. I work on any tiny home improvements I can now while the weather is still to cold for me to be outside and enjoying it.
I shared all about my go-to trim paint HERE. It’s still my favorite, and the paint I grab for anytime I’m getting ready to paint trim white. Magic Erasers work great at keeping your trim and doors clean – especially those dirty hand prints. But I have found that every few years giving our trim a fresh coat of paint is what keeps our house looking fresh and clean over the long haul. You can also see it in our previous dining room below. I used it on the trim and it’s the white paint I used for the lower portions of the walls as well.
