My Favorite Outdoor Planters This Season

Hi Friends!!

This time of year always has me dreaming about flowers spilling over the edges of beautiful planters, fresh herbs growing just outside the kitchen door, and porches filled with layers that make home feel even more inviting. And while the flowers themselves often steal the show, I’ve always believed the planter you choose can be just as important.

Personally, I think of outdoor planters much like I do furniture or lighting inside a home. They help set the tone, add personality, and create that first impression before anyone even steps through your front door. Over the years, I’ve collected a handful of planter styles that I come back to season after season. Pieces that feel timeless, versatile, and right at home, whether they’re flanking my front door, styled on a porch, or tucked around our patio.

So today I’m sharing a roundup of some of my favorite outdoor planters I’m loving this season.

1. Aged Stone Planters

These will forever be one of my favorites.

There’s something about an aged stone planter that instantly adds character and makes a newer home feel as though it has always been there. I especially love using these near front doors, porch entries, or anchoring outdoor seating areas.

They pair beautifully with:

  • White hydrangeas
  • Boxwoods
  • Ferns
  • Lavender
  • Trailing ivy

My tip? Use these in pairs for a classic, symmetrical look, like I have shown in the photo above, on either side of our stone steps.

2. Terracotta Pots with Character

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I have a soft spot for anything that feels collected and a little imperfect.

Weathered terracotta pots bring warmth, texture, and that old-world garden charm I’m always drawn to.

I love mixing different sizes together for:

  • Herb gardens
  • Potting stations
  • Garden shed styling
  • Porch corners

Bonus points if they already have that naturally aged patina.

3. Fluted Planters

Fluted details are one of those subtle design elements that instantly elevate a space.

These feel clean, classic, and slightly tailored—which makes them perfect for porches where you want things to feel polished but still approachable.

I especially love these filled with:

  • White petunias
  • Geraniums
  • Herbs
  • Boxwoods

4. Woven Planters

Woven planters add instant warmth and bring in that relaxed, lived-in layer I’m always after.

I love using these in covered outdoor spaces like:

  • Screened porches
  • Covered patios
  • Outdoor dining spaces

They soften harder surfaces and pair beautifully with neutral cushions and lanterns.

5. Pedestal Urns

If I want to create a little drama outdoors… this is always my go-to.

Pedestal planters add height, presence, and a sense of formality that feels especially beautiful at an entry.

I love filling them with:

  • Hanging Plants
  • Boston ferns
  • Ivy
  • Seasonal branches
  • Mixed annuals

Sometimes one beautiful urn is all a space needs.

Before choosing flowers, think about the planter first. Its shape, texture, color, and scale all help tell the story of your home before a single bloom is planted. Choose pieces you’ll want to bring out season after season… the flowers may change, but timeless containers never go out of style.

Here are some that I have my on eye this year :
