Home Office {Sweet & Simple}

Welcome Back!!! Or maybe I’m just saying that to myself 🙂 I always feel like once summer gets in full swing, and after a long holiday weekend, it’s a little bit of back to reality. I’m so glad that you guys are my reality! We’ve kicked off summer to a great start, with lots of trips to the beach, some summer sleepovers, and of course ice cream 🙂 I hope you all had a wonderful 4th on Friday, and weekend festivities. Today I’m sharing a brand new space here on the blog. It’s not new to us, but it’s a space that hasn’t been seen, except recently on Instagram.

My simple Home Office space.

The reason why you never saw this space before, is because when we first moved into our house, this space held our home gym.
Before:

This room is an on-suite to our master bedroom. If you are looking through that little odd-shaped doorway on the left, you see where our bed is. Behind where I’m standing is our master bath (another never before seen space). Once the home gym was moved out (thank you Jesus!), I moved my white desk into this space, so that it wouldn’t be left vacant for something else unwanted to fill it in. It stayed that way for a long time. Than last summer, I brought my focus back to this space to the after you see today.

After:
I needed this space to be both functional and inspiring. When I’m working on new designs for clients, I like to have my most inspiring items right in front of me. Favorite paint colors, and fabric swatches at hand make them readily accessible, while they are also pretty to look at.
Fresh flowers always put a smile on my face, and in general create a happy work space. I also have some of my favorite quotes up, that remind me why I do what I do, and that I absolutely love it!
“Blessed are those who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.”
I love how this quote points out “Humble Places”, because sometimes we all get stuck in the trap of thinking, if I just had a bigger space, or if I just had more money, or I can never decorate as good as she does. The second we start comparing our spaces and styles to others we’ve missed the mark. We need to dig deep and create spaces that inspire us, only then is our space truly satisfying.

Don’t get me wrong, it is perfectly ok to ask for help, or others advice. Just don’t forget to listen to yourself as well. You would be surprised at how well you know your taste and what you truly like.
For this space, like any space I create, I always love to bring in texture. A lidded cube basket helps me store materials I need for clients, as well as acting as additional work space. I choose items in my favorite colors to decorate with, that way it’s like wearing your favorite shirt everyday.
I repainted our entire bedroom back in the beginning of the year, which I will share more of later this week, the new color is similar, but has more of a grey tone to it, instead of tan. The walls were painted in Hazy Skies by Ben Moore to create a nice neutral back drop, so the things I love most, pop!
Like that chunky salvaged architectural piece
(it’s twin is hanging in the living room).
Pictures of my babies, that are near and dear to my heart. The metal numbers are from hobby lobby, and represent our wedding anniversary. A large DIY cork board to hold whatever magazine images I’m currently loving, a cute spiral bound calendar (via: Target), and a favorite Lindsay Letters print (found here).
My desk top is not always this cleared off, but when it is I tend to be more inspired, and get more work done. So to avoid an atomic bomb going off on it {which can easily happen}, I try to go through it once a week, more like every other, but it’s been working so far.
I will be back later this week, finally sharing the full reveal of our switched up master bedroom. I hope you are enjoying your summer so far, and to see what I’m up to more often come hang out with me on Instagram (roomsforrent)!!

Love the architectural piece that I’ve seen two of your rooms.
May I ask: What is it?

Thanks Peggy! I got them at a barn sale, and they came off of a gingerbread house down south. They were part of the trim on the outside of the house.
