2016 Christmas Tree

Hi Friends! I am so excited to be sharing today our 2016 Christmas Tree! Even more excited I’m back with friends for another installment of the Farmhouse Holiday Decor Series, and we are all teaming up to give you some early Christmas inspiration, because I know so many people who start decorating for Christmas this weekend!

If you caught my post yesterday, then you are aware I decided to incorporate some new colors this year. I shared how I was feeling like lasts years decor, while pretty, felt like something was missing for me. While I’m still loving my neutrals, I decided to incorporate a muted blue this year. 

Unlike the deep navy, or teal blue you may see in some holiday decor, I went for more of a slate blue, and focused on bringing in some new textures. Don’t worry you will get to see the full look next week in our Christmas tour, but for now, lets take a look at how I decorated our tree.

I continued the mixed metal look from our Holiday Tree Tablescape with the ornaments I used. I mentioned yesterday that I was adding some gold tones this year for warmth, and I love how it turned out. Even though the ornaments don’t vary much with color, they all vary in different shapes and sizes.

Next is the ribbon. This was a new technique I learned from Kristen at Ella Claire and added last year. I loved it so much I used it this year, just with different ribbon.

I think the key is to make sure you add varying widths in your ribbon. I used 3 different styles of blue ribbon on our tree, 2 satin styles in different styles, and the other felt more like a sturdier canvas with gold trim.

Then lastly, I added this neutral ribbon, with a simple text reading “Noel”, that alternated with gold stars, which playing into my gold hued ornaments.

I also incorporated ornaments with different texture, which helps add variety to the monotone collection on our tree. You also might be noticing a little extra fluff to our tree this year? Lets just say we are down a throw pillow, lol! Usually I am a down pillow insert only girl, but somehow I had a polyester fill one lying around. Well I solved the problem. I cut that sucker open and tucked handfuls of the filling in and around the tree. This really made it feel full looking.
