My favorite thing to buy for the new year!

12/29/2016 By Bre

29 Dec

Have you recovered from Christmas yet? As I speak we are curled up inside watching big white fluffy snowflakes fall, drinking hot chocolate by our wood stove. It’s quite possibly one of my most favorite ways to soak in the winter season, instead of dreading the months of cold weather that lie ahead. As 2016 winds down, I thought I would share with you my favorite thing to buy as we get ready to start another new year! We all go through New Years resolutions, I assure you, this has nothing to do with that! HA! But I do have one simple household item that I absolutely get giddy with excitement to get my hands on! I shared earlier this week on Instagram, that we are keeping our Christmas decor up just a bit longer than normal this year, as I do some final tweaking to get ready for Better Homes & Gardens to come and take pictures for their special edition magazine for Christmas next year. It’s a dream come true and I will be sure to share more on that soon. So in the meantime, while our house still glows of Christmas, there is one thing I can buy that may help tie me over until I decorate for the new year.

It’s nothing fancy, but my favorite thing to buy for the new year is a new CALENDAR! I know crazy right?! With the start of a new year, putting up the new calendar is one of the best ways I can stay organized. I know it’s a simple act, but it really helps me stay on track with everything going in our family. I’ve already picked up two, and got a cute tiny desk top calendar in my stocking for Christmas, so with three already set up and ready to go, I feel ready to tackle the new year. In case it’s been a while since you’ve shopped for a new calendar, there are some great, more decorative options, that personally make me smile when I see them. So I thought I would share some of my top picks with you today!

I don’t know if it’s considered “old fashioned” yet to still write everything down, and I realize that pretty much every device out there comes with a calendar built in, but nothing feels more productive to me then writing things down on the calendar. It’s right up there with making lists, and writing things down in my planner.

Who says calendars have to be boring to look at?! Whether you are a list maker like me, or just like to have a calendar that’s easy to glance at, nothing is better than feeling just a tiny bit more organized as you start the new year!

I always order a calendar with some of my favorite pictures. Makes me smile every time I look at it. I also start the new year with a pocket planner. I couldn’t live without that. I write down all my appointments and birthdays. One other thing I do is—I start the new year with a new checkbook register and the first check I write each year is to charity. Reminds me to make charity an important part of my year.

I totally agree, Bre. There is nothing like opening a new calendar and seeing all the blank spaces which will soon be filled with family and work activities as well as community and church events. I rank that right up there with buying new school supplies in the fall. I’m happy to know there are others out there with such appreciation. Blessings to you and your family in 2017.
