DIY | Hallway Board & Batten

DIY | Hallway Board & Batten

03/30/2021 By Bre

Hello Friends! I’m so excited to share this latest reveal with all of you. The newest installment of one of my favorite wall treatments – board & batten. One of my go-to ways to add texture and warmth to a room that doesn’t have curtains or upholstery in it is with architectural details. You can add architectural details on the ceilings, on walls, and it instantly can make any space feel cozier. We have installed board & batten to quite a few spaces around our home, and each time I am just as smitten with the outcome. So today I’m sharing how we installed this DIY board & batten in our hallway at the bottom of our stairs.

Coffee Chat | vol. 1

Coffee Chat | vol. 1

Hello Friends!!! I know things have been a little quiet over here on the blog for the last few months, and before I jump back in to regularly sharing on here, I wanted to share a “catch – up” post if you will. Picture it as I’m personally inviting you over for a cup of coffee, only virtually. You know the kind of catch up you do with a friend when you haven’t seen each other in a long time, and a coffee chat is long over due. Well today, you and I are going to have a sort of coffee chat – only it will be online, although I so wish you could be sitting in my living room with me, curled up on our white slip covered couch, with a giant cup of coffee. Or tea, or hot cocoa, or whatever you choose to sip on while we dive deep into conversation. I thought it would be fun to share some photos I’ve snapped around our house over the last month or so while we “chat”.

Christmas in the Kitchen | 2020

Hello Friends!! Today I’m sharing how I decorated our open shelves in the kitchen! Every year when it’s time to pull the Christmas decor out, I head straight to these shelves in our kitchen. They are my most favorite area to decorate for Christmas in our kitchen, if not our entire house! The past few years I’ve kept things pretty consistent in how I’ve decorated them, each year slightly bette than the one before. However this year I was craving a little change. Like the rest of our Christmas decor this year, I’ve added my new favorite Christmas decor staple to our shelves, and while some things still remain, like boughs of greenery and bottle brush trees, I changed things up ever so slightly this year, and I love how fresh it feels!

There’s a new favorite in town, and you might have noticed it in my Festive Christmas Tablescape earlier this week ๐Ÿ™‚ Or if you’ve seen some of my “behind the scenes” Christmas decorating stories on IG lately? I can’t help it, I’ve been adding it everywhere. Open shelves, my centerpiece, even in the vignette I created on my buffet. It first showed up in the faux garland arrangement I did on the new plank wall in our kitchen, and right away I knew I wanted to add this everywhere.

Christmas Decor Favorites | 2020

Happy Monday! It’s crazy to think that Thanksgiving is this week already! How did the year go by so fast already. I shared in my FB group – Coffee with Bre- on Friday that I’ve narrowed down the feeling that I want my Christmas decor to have this year. Simple. Minimal. Organic. Pulling inspiration from years past, I’m focusing on simple garlands, faux fur, and some chunky knits for added texture. Even though I’ve bought minimal new Christmas decor this year, I’ve still browsed quite a bit, and thought it would be fun to round up some of my favorites, including some of my go-to staples when it comes to decorating for Christmas. So here are a few images from past years that I am pulling from for this years inspiration, along with this years Christmas Decor Favorites!

Christmas Tree Farm | Porch Decor

Christmas Tree Farm | Porch Decor

After having what seemed like the most mild fall in history, our temps here in New England are telling us winter is on it’s way! In fact we’ve already had some snow fall, but with temps in the 70’s a few days later, it melted pretty quickly. With porch sitting weather no longer in season, I start to get our outdoor spaces prepped and ready for winter. Patio furniture gets put away, and any remaining signs of fall – i.e. our pumpkins, get fed to the chickens. Since we do get some snow on our farmers porch in the winter, I like to keep the furniture on it minimal. Making it easy to clear and walk on for shelter from the winter elements. I cleared off our porch the other day to start the process of outdoor prep, and created this sweet little Christmas Tree Farm vignette, perfect for the upcoming holidays, but something that can last all winter long.

Hello Friends !! Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments about the new paint color on the barn door in our kitchen!! Seriously, it came out so much better than I anticipated. It feels like the new color was meant to be in our kitchen. I referred to painting the barn door in our kitchen, as “cutting bangs”. You know when you are just ready for a change, and you think bangs will solve all your problems ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes that’s true, and sometimes a little more oomph is needed! While today I’m sharing that Oomph!! I created a new accent wall in our kitchen with peel n’ stick wood planks from Stikwood! Yes you read that right – Peel N’ Stick! And I am in love with how it turned out.

New Paint on the Barn Door

Hello Friends!! I shared in my stories on Instagram last week, that as I wrap up taking pictures of our house for my next book, due to out next fall, I’m sort of at that point where I’m ready to cut some bangs. And by bangs, I mean that feeling you get what you’ve just ended a relationship, or had broken up with someone and you want to cut all your hair off! Except in this scenario – the relationship is with my house, and instead of scissors in my hands – I have a paintbrush that’s armed and ready to go. So today on the chopping block is the barn door in our kitchen!
