Happy Summer Friends! I’m so excited to be teaming up with almost 30 bloggers this week to share our summer spaces with you, along with Birch Lane and Country Living Magazine. Living in the northeast, with bitter winters, it’s no surprise that summer has us begging to stay outside as long as we can.
I finally decided to take the plunge and update our kitchen island, by painting it a bold color, and it was so easy. So one night around dinner time, because that’s when projects seem to strike, I grabbed my paintbrush, and my favorite chalk paint color and got to work. Or so I thought….

It’s funny for me to look back through past home tours, because no 2 are the same. Even though I love my neutrals and I have the same color palette for most of them, there is a different flair on each one. Even the transition from Spring to Summer, I like my home’s decor to reflect the season changing outside. Summer is bright and full of fresh air, especially after those long New England winters, so I wanted the inside of our home to feel just as bright and cheery as it does outside!
When it comes to creating any space, there are a few key tips I think make all the difference in the world.
– Piecing together a room, instead of buying a “completed set” takes longer, but the outcome is a room that feels put together with extra love and attention to detail, and gives you an heirloom feel, which no store can provide.
– Not over looking pieces that will make a huge impact on the space. The right sized area rug, and lighting with character make a bigger impact than you think.
– Always incorporate at least on DIY. Our daughters room was put together with a mix of yard sale finds, DIY’s and finished with sophisticated touches.

All those investments of pouring into our house came full circle when we were sick, and our home offered us a place of comfort and rest so we could get better. As I laid there and looked around our home, I felt refreshed because I was in an environment that inspired me and welcomed me in to rest, so I could regain my energy to go back out into the world.
