Our dining room has taken on many looks over the past 8 years since we’ve lived in this house. I’ve shared the progression our dining room took, showing where we started, and how I got it to the space you see today. You can read all about it HERE. Then this past fall I did something I had been pining to do for over a year, and that was to paint it a new darker color for the first time since I originally painted it Wood Smoke when we moved in. It’s been about 5 months, and I’m still loving the new color I chose – Peppercorn by Sherwin Williams. I took some photos the other week, mostly because the only photos I really had with the new color on the walls, our dining room was decorated for a specific seasonal home tour. So to start the year off with a fresh look, here is our dining room for 2019.
Organizing the Buffet
This year I’ve really been embracing the “fresh start” mentality that comes with the new year. I’ve been cleaning out closets and drawers. And one of those places I’ve ignored for far too long is the buffet in our dining room. So today I’m sharing some simple things I did to organize the buffet and made it SO much more efficient.

My Go-To Decorating Advice
One of the most common issues I hear from people regarding their space, is that it’s lacking something, and they just can’t put their finger on it. They usually try to define the lack by using words like flat or blah. The room has no character, or it feels uninviting! While I don’t consider myself a decorating genius, I do have a few go-to’s when it comes to decorating. So today I’m sharing with you my go-to decorating advice. These are the top 5 things I look for in a room.

5 Ways your Home can tell your Story
If you caught my post yesterday, then you know I shared how I believe our homes should tell not just any story, but our story. You can read it HERE, in case you missed it, but I pointed out some key pieces in my own home to share how it reflects us. I want our home to tell a story, Our story. While I love finding great buys at HomeGoods and Marshalls, my favorite things to decorate with are those that have a story. So today I’m sharing 5 ways your Home can tell your Story too!
Does your Home tell your Story
With all the refreshing the new year brings us, I can’t help but take a look around my home with a refreshed perspective. Wanting to start off the new year with a freshly cleaned space, and decluttered surfaces, I can’t help but analyze over our homes decor, and reflect on the story it tells. Looking over every piece of furniture and knick knack, I ask myself the question ” Does my home tell our story?”, and the answer is YES!
Top Home Decor Picks for 2019
Have you taken your Christmas decor down? Does the house feel a little empty? Every new year, once the Christmas decor has been taken down, and packed away, I go into full blown spring cleaning mode! It’s not that I haven’t been cleaning our house all through the holidays, but for some reason once the holiday decor is put away, I go into cleaning mode. It feels so good to get purge, and get things back in order after the holidays, but once I’ve gotten rid of every last speck of dust, I always get the urge to refresh. I’m not talking about giving every room a makeover, but I do like to buy one or two new home decor pieces to start off the new year! So if you are feeling like I am, and maybe that your home is feeling a little bare, I’ve rounded up my top home decor picks for 2019!
Goals for 2019
Each year I like to start things off by writing down some goals I have for the new year. I’ll be sharing more on how I do this personally, but I also set goals for the blog, and projects I want to do around our home. My husband and I joke that the winter is our “Project Season”, but typically it’s because we are cooped up inside due to impending snow. It’s fun to look back on goals I’ve set in past years. We don’t always get to every house goal we have for that year, but that’s ok, they are just goals, so we can shoot again for them the next year too. So here are my goals for 2019 for around our home.
