Our Dining Room {Fall 2013}

10/14/2013 By Bre

14 Oct
This year I really wanted to warm things up a bit for fall. Most of my year round decor is white, which is why I like to add some warm colors in the colder months.

I mixed real pumpkins, faux pumpkins, and freshly clipped branches from our yard.
Simple, uncomplicated style, which reflects how I feel this fall, and the need to quiet life, and enjoy slower days. I think our summers are so busy, because we only get to enjoy nice weather for a few short months, but every fall I’m ready to slow down, wrap myself in a blanket, and just sit with a hot cup of coffee. Anyone else feel this way?

Last year I attempted to fill my dough bowl with pumpkins and gourds. Well I found out fast just how deep my dough bowl was in that attempt, and not wanting to break the bank this year, I went for larger items this year.

The white pumpkin I recently purchased from walmart for less than $5, it was green apple green, and I decided to paint it white to pop more against the rest of the items. The other 2 gourds are faux I got last year, and the pinecones I already had as well as the rest of the filler items.

The Pottery Barn books are part of a 5 set that I’ve had for about 8 years, and get moved around constantly because they stack great and provide a nice neutral backdrop. The leaves I grabbed from our yard, and continue to change colors outside, so I envision swapping them up frequently.

I also swapped out the white plates I had to the left of the windows with a darker wood sign I picked up on clearance a few years ago at Hobby Lobby. I’m constantly moving things I have hung on the wall.
It’s very rare that something has a permanent home around here.
The best part about changing up the shelves each year, is even if they don’t come out exactly how I wanted, I know I always get another chance next year to tweak and try again.
So I try not to fuss too much over them.
I love having these shelves to switch out seasonally. They are one of the spots in my house
I look forward to decorating every time the seasons change. Everything I used I either already had,
or purchased last year. My go-to’s are always wheat bunches, berry clusters, and pinecones.
I recently purchased the small silver dish on the middle shelf, engraved with this quote:
“As we gather together may our hearts be grateful and our glasses be full.”

I loved it, because to me it is a great reminder for the upcoming holiday season, especially being with family, but as we open our hearts and homes with friends, it’s a reminder to me about what I enjoy most about hosting. Whether for a meal or a stay, to enjoy and cherish our time with one another.

I pinned this quote from Dear Lillie in a post  from last fall,
and knew I definitely wanted to use it in this years fall decor. It’s a bit feminine and flirty to me,
which is a nice contrast to the more masculine colors in my house. So for me it brings in the perfect amount of balance.

Can’t wait to come back and show you some of the fall swap outs I’ve done in our living room and our kitchen tour showing off it’s new lighter paint color. Until then … Have a wonderful day!
