Today I am sharing with you all the updates our kitchen has gone under since I shared this post with you. I can’t believe the transformation this kitchen has taken looking back at before pics. So I will keep the talking to less and the Before & After to more. Let me show you what we started with.
Before:
This is what the space looked like when we moved in. Kind of an empty shell. The thing I was most excited about was having white cabinets. White kitchens have always been my favorite, like 15 years in the making favorite, before they were all the fad. So we moved in and the kitchen looked like this for a bit.
I was feeling a bit drowned by brown. I liked the color, but it was everywhere. So we got two more white bar stools to match. I liked the light fixture, but it felt a bit to modern for the farmhouse kitchen I was wanting, and that back wall between the bathroom and basement door drove me nuts. So after a lot of progress, here is was it looks like today.
After:
We added a beadboard backsplash and corbels to give the kitchen a more vintage feel, and make the cabinets feel built- in.

After:
After much convincing I finally got the hubs to install a plate rack wall for me, after admiring this one for so long, I concluded that this was the perfect solution for that awkward wall between the basement and the bathroom.
I shared this update last year, when we had gotten 2 more white barstools, and wrapped our island in beadboard. That was the first big update we did, and I still love the feel it gave the kitchen. I had picked up this bottle cap opener long before we had the island. And now it has the perfect spot.

After:
Across the kitchen we installed our new shelves. Right now the kids have a small table underneath which is perfect for their little mealtime they share.
Before:
I sold the side table, that we used as an island in our previous house. I love this piece of furniture, so I held onto it, but just had no need for it in our new house, so off it went to it’s new home. Then we redid the shelves, built a bench to put shoes on, and it functions so much better.
After:
Here you can see the view into our mudroom, to read all about that transformation, click here.
Before:
Above you can see what the space looked like before the chalkboard wall, and before I painted the interior door. If you follow me on Instagram you saw a sneak peak of me starting to paint the door. Here is the after for the full reveal :
I hope you enjoyed my updated kitchen tour. I will be back to share some sources and a few more details on how this room transformed, until then Enjoy the before & after pics, and have a great Monday!

I have a smaller kitchen that we are going to redo… Like you I love my white cabinets however, I don’t love how easy they are to get dirty. But, like your home, my home has the country farmhouse look….. After looking at your redo, I decided to place molding above my cabinets and apply the bead board – corbels like you have done… My only concern is behind the stove with grease splatter… The light color is just what I need.. esp since I like to change out decorations… I plan on sewing some burlap curtains… and the dark door just sets it all off… What color did you use on the door? thanks for the share.. I do love your kitchen. I too have wanted a plate rack but we are selling our house so I have decided to wait until we find our forever house.

Love your kitchen Bre. Especially love the plate rack. It may be a solution for an area that I have to redo because of plumbing problems. I looked for a tutorial on it but did not find one. Would love to know how it was constructed. Thanks so much. New follower and I will be back for more inspiration.
