Our Fall Mantle {2013}

11/02/2013 By Bre

2 Nov

I realized that while I shared our fall mantle this year on Instagram, I haven’t actually shared over here on the blog. So I have just a few pictures to show you what I did with our mantle for fall. I looked and looked for a recent photo of what it looked like before, but unfortunately could only find this one, and the quality is less than ideal, but at least you get the idea.

I know it’s hard to see in this photo, but I had some little birds, a bird house, and springtime greenery up for spring. And sad to say it stayed like this for most of summer, with the exception of swapping out the birds for starfish. So when it came time for fall, I took everything down for a clean slate.

I took down the old window, I figured it had been up there for 2 years, and that is a long time for me to keep anything in the same place. I moved white platter from the left to the center. Then I added this print (which hung out on these shelves for a while) to the left, and flanked it with wheat, and candles.

The small brass candlesticks I got in a set of 6 from goodwill for $4. There is a little story about those I will share in a min. I kept things neutral using some white pitchers, pinecones, and on the right filled an old frame with book pages.

Ok so funny story about the brass candlesticks. I bought them from Goodwill, but rewind over two years ago, I’m helping my mom clean, and get rid of stuff she doesn’t need, and she asks me about these brass candlesticks. Now this is just before I really got familiar with joy of antiquing and vintage items. I know what was I thinking. Well in the bag they went off to Goodwill. So fast forward to last years holiday season, and I searched high and low for these little guys at my moms house, not remembering I told her to toss them. Then she finally concluded they must have been thrown out. Bummed as I was, I couldn’t move past the vision I had in my head for them. Now fast forward to about 3 months ago, I’m walking through Goodwill looking for a large old frame (which I found) and stuffed in the back of the shelves all rolled up and taped together were these 6 brass candlesticks. Reminding me of the ones from my moms I grabbed them, and headed home. It wasn’t until I got home and untangled them, and took all the tape off, that I realized they were the same exact ones that my mom had, and now I just bought them for $4 almost 3 years later. I know, I know the irony of it all!! Well I hope you have a great weekend, Happy November !
