Wednesday Catch-Up!

01/29/2014 By Bre

Hello Friends!! We have been quite the busy little bees over here lately. With temps in the single digits lately, we have been in hibernation mode. Perfect time to bust out some projects from the to-do list. If you follow me on Instagram, than you know there are lots of things happening over here. For those not on Instagram I will fill you in a bit over here, and also provide a little more info for the Instagram posts you have seen.

So we sold out black dining room table! I know you’re thinking WHAT?! But yes, it was time to bid her farewell, and although I like the table much more once it was black, it still wasn’t my dream table, which the hubby so sweetly offered to make. So first I had to make room for the new table = insert sell current table!

Then we were off to Lowe’s to grab some lumber that we would need for the table top!

It is stunning and I can not wait to show you the full reveal! I already had the legs, from a table I inherited from my sister over the summer, so we built the rest of the frame and installed planked boards for the top. EEK! Are you sensing the anticipation?!

Then we made a trip to IKEA to get the chairs for the new table. We are going to build a bench (haven’t done that yet) for one side, and then purchased 2 parsons chairs from IKEA. Originally I was going to get the white slip covers for them, but was debating over the $30 price tag for just one 🙁 Now mind you, IKEA has the best priced parson chairs around, including the slip covers, which are a must in my house, then the hubby asked if I knew how to make some, which I replied “Yes”, he put the slipcovers back on the shelf, and now I will be making them. So we will see how that goes! 🙂

I sold our living room rug. Yep, sold it!! I know you’re probably thinking I’m nuts, and my kids are thinking they’re next, but I will be the first to admit, it was my first online impulse purchase, and I was never really 100% in love with it. I mean don’t get me wrong, it was a fantastic rug, and I loved the look of it. It boils down to it was a bit too bold for me, and a size too large for our living room. I haven’t  purchased a new rug yet, I have a few ideas, but want to make sure I am 100% in love with the next one before splurging. I pulled the striped rug in from the dining room, and have that temporarily in the living room, until I decide on “the” rug.

Thankfully I had a friend who was looking to get a new rug for her family room, so I sold it to her, which was a win win for both of us. Along with craving a space a little more neutral and a little less bold, I passed along my white and navy blue chevron pillow covers to her as well because they went so well together. SO this brings me to the photo above. I made some new pillow covers out of drop cloths, and painted on some stripes and numbers for a little faux grain sack feel! Much better.

Something I have been toying with for months, I mean MONTHS has been planking some old barn boards on the wall, and in the photo about we did just that! We moved our bedroom around over the summer, and this providing the perfect wall to put the planks up. I know it’s hard to imagine without seeing the whole room, but I have a big Master Bedroom Update post coming soon!

In our IKEA trip to get the dining room chairs, I also had 2 of these wicker trunks on my shopping list to go in the kids room. They will be acting as footboards at the end of each of their beds, and provide additional storage for out of season bedding and toys!

I always liked the look of the vintage wicker trunks, so a little DIY was in the mix for these two.
I started by painting the stripes on them, and then stenciled their birthdays on each of them, vintage style, so that they know whose is whose. The outcome is better than I could have thought, and this addition makes their room just about complete!

We also celebrated a little princess in the house. I can’t believe my baby turned 3! She wanted a pink hello kitty cake, and I was not about to attempt making one, so I called in the big dogs for this one and ordered it from a local bakery and the outcome was delish!

And lastly, this about sums up my life! I mean, it has just been sooooo cold, for the last month or so, 30 degrees is sounding mighty nice right about now. I know a lot of you are in the same arctic freeze, and I for one have had just about enough! Most days the kids can’t even play in the snow because it’s too cold out. Cabin Fever much! I think so.
So that in a nutshell is what we have been up too, along with painting nightstands, finishing my gallery wall, hanging wall art in the kitchen and living room. I have much to update you on!!
And can’t wait!!
