Thank you so much for all of your kind remarks on my Neutral Shared Kids room! We love how calm the room feels, and will be easy to transition as the kids get older. Today I’m going to share with you how I painted the stripes on the wicker trunks at the end of their beds.
This was a really simple and quick project, that not only personalized their wicker trunks, but brought in some character as well. I already loved the look of the wicker trunks at the end of the bed, but I also love to add stripes to just about anything I can. I started by taping off the trunks with painters tape, no measuring involved with this one, just eye-balled it!
Once I had the wicker trunks completely taped off, I began to dry brush white paint on the taped off sections, to create the desired look I wanted.
In the close up photo above, you can see that I wasn’t focused on getting a full coverage of the paint, because I was going for more of a vintage feel, and wanted the paint to look like it naturally wore off over time. I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old White, but you could really use any white paint or an acrylic craft paint that you have on hand.
To create a dry brush effect, I grabbed a paper plate, and once you have paint on the end of your brush you rub it on your plate until most of the paint is off, and this creates a light white washed look on the surface you are painting.
Once the paint had dried, I decided to stencil on some numbers to help with the vintage vibe I was craving. For this I just used simple, nothing fancy stencils I got at Walmart in their craft aisle.
I love this project because it was simple and quick, but added a big impact! Sometimes it doesn’t always have to be a huge costly project to add that extra touch to make your space personal.
