Hello Friends!! It’s hard to believe that fall is fast approaching, but with the cooler temperatures that have been lingering, it seems as though summer is moving into a distant memory. I always enjoy switching up the decor around our house for each new season, and as we subtly begin to transition into fall, a new wreath is always a great place to start!!
For this DIY wreath, I was craving some muted yellow / gold tones. I went up and down all the aisle’s at Michael’s looking for something that spoke to me. I came across this golden-yellow, faux pampas grass branches, and loved that they didn’t look like wheat, traditionally used for fall, but still had a whimsical feel.
First I began by cutting off each individual grass stem. Next I began tucking them in the wreath, working my way around evenly, and securing each piece with a dab of hot glue.
Once I used up all my pampas grass stems, the wreath still felt a little bare, but I decided to hang it up, hoping it would look better once it was hung.
I love the pop of color it added, especially up against our dark front door, but something still felt off to me. After looking at it for a few days, I decided it felt flat not bare, and I needed to add some more depth to it. So back to Michael’s I went, this time looking for similar colored picks and fall florals that would still play well with the pampas grass.
I ended up finding some fall berry branches, and tiny yellow thistle floral stems, that were just what I needed to give this wreath some dimension.
Using my same technique as with the pampas grass, I used wire cutters to clip the long branches down into little stems that could be tucked in throughout the wreath.
This time when I hung up my wreath it finally felt complete! No more bare spots, it didn’t fall flat, instead the added berry clusters and thistle, gave more texture and dimension, making my wreath welcoming and inviting.

I have had similar wreaths in past falls and want to tell anyone planning to use one to be sure to hang in a covered place if using outside. Does not hold up to rainy weather. Looked great on my porch under cover and lasted well through the fall season.

AHH yes, I thought the same thing!! Our basement gets very musty in the summer, and I’m thinking I will not be able to store it down there either 🙂 So pretty though!
