Hello Friends!! I am so excited to be able to finally share our new kitchen floor with you today!! We started this project just before school started. 3 days before school started to be exact, and then fall decorating posts took over, and I never got a chance to share the final reveal with you! I’m so excited to share how our new kitchen flooring came out, and can’t wait for you to see!
Come take a look~
Just for a refresher, because I don’t share my kitchen all too often, this is what it looked like before we started tearing up the existing tile.
Before
I shared why we wanted to replace the tile, and part of the demo process HERE. Honestly, my biggest complaint about our previous tile was that what started out as white grout, quickly became brown because our kitchen is such a high traffic area.
Regardless of my few attempts to paint the grout white again, or try Pinterest cleaning hacks, nothing worked, and I always felt like our kitchen floor looked dirty because of the dingy grout.
Well, not anymore friends! See how it shines now ~
After
We went with a wood look ceramic tile, and I could not be happier! If you remember in my post about our kitchen floor, shared HERE, I had narrowed down my choices between 3 cement looking tile, and the 3 wood-look tile options shown below.
Then I narrowed it down to only three options. Two were wood-look, and one was cement. I shared the process in my stories on IG, but the choice was pretty clear once I placed each tile in our kitchen to see which one fit the best.
I ended up choosing the Bryce Canyon Timber wood plank, ceramic tile from Floor & Decor, which was the option in the middle in the photo above. It was a bit warmer than the other two, but still had a lot of gray undertones, which I was wanting.
I paired it with the closest grout color, because I wanted the grout lines to be minimal, and I did not want to have the same issues as last time. I chose Sahara Beige, and was so happy with how well it matched once it was installed!
When we first tore up our old tile, I immediately started having doubts that I chose the wrong tile. It’s funny how our brains can play tricks on us like that sometimes, making us second guess our choices. But I reminded myself that I did my homework, I compared multiple tile options, and each time I went back to this wood look tile.
I was afraid that going from having a white floor to “wood” toned floor it would make the kitchen feel darker, but if anything I think it feels brighter now, and the wood-look tile adds so much warmth!
I shared in my IG stories last week, how when we were demoing the floor, we had to remove the trim around our island, and in the process some of the wood got damaged. Since we added all the wood around the island to give it more character, my husband was going to just redo everything, but I had a better idea.
We used some leftover planks of plywood that I had in the basement from another project, and installed them like faux shiplap right over the existing wood treatment. The only wood we needed to get were the pine 1×3’s for new trim, and I gave the whole thing 3 coats of white paint.
I had every intention of painting it the same dark navy blue that was there before – Peppercorn by Sherwin Williams, but I loved the white so much for now I’m just leaving it as is. I could always paint it dark again if the mood strikes.
I couldn’t be happier with our kitchen floor now, especially since we finished up the project just in time before muddy season and winter! It hides the dirt so much better, which makes this not only a beautiful design choice, but a practical one for our family as well!
I wrote down a whole bunch of tips during the process of the renovation that I will be sharing more on later in the week, in case you are thinking about replacing a tile floor in the near future.
You can read more about our island counter top we installed HERE. Tutorial coming soon!

Beautiful.
I need to lay a floor in my kitchen/living room, still have plywood floors. Want to make sure that what I put down doesnโt show every little piece of dirt etc. Does this hide the dirt?
Bre says
It’s one of the top reasons I picked this floor Vicki, I NEEDED something that would hide the dirt, and I can’t tell you how happy I am with how well it does in fact hide the dirt! We have a dirt driveway, and this is our main entrance, so a lot of dirt gets tracked into our kitchen, and it has the perfect grain and color tone to mask all of life’s messes ๐
