Hi Friends!!
Each year I like to start things off by writing down the goals I have in mind for our house for the upcoming year. My husband and I joke that the winter is our “Project Season”, but typically it’s because we are cooped up inside due to impending snow. While we don’t always accomplish everything on my list, It does help me focus in on the things I really want to get done around our house. So today I’m sharing all my goals for our home for 2023.
Let’s dive in ~
We’ve been in our home now for 18 months, and even though we haven’t tackled any major projects inside, I’ve realized just how much the power of paint can have on transforming your space. I always feel like choosing a paint color is a very personal choice, and while our home has some really pretty colors on the wall, they aren’t my number 1 choice. This didn’t feel more real than when I painted our home office last February, and was reminded just how much I love white walls.
Kids Hallway Refresh
We have a hallway at the top of our stairs that leads down to where our kids bedrooms are. It’s pretty narrow, and kind of dark, but I have big plans to brighten things up and add some personality into the space.
It’s not a high traffic area, but our kids use it everyday, and I would love for it to feel a little more like home for them. I still have all our family photos in boxes, that were from the gallery wall that went up the staircase in our previous home that I have been saving just for this space.
There is also exposed brick from our chimney that runs up through the middle of our house that I plan to do some sort of lime wash effect as well. It might not be a big space, but I think I can make a big impact in it.
Paint Mudroom + Hallway
I shared my inspiration for this space HERE. I was actually totally planning on starting this refresh this time last year, and some how other things took priority. One of the main reasons I didn’t start it, is because I knew once I paint in here, it will lead to painting up the staircase as well, which has a very tall wall that is open to both floors. I’ve hit the point though where I’m about to just start painting it, and I will deal with the staircase wall after lol.
I shared all of my inspiration, and what I plan on incorporating into our mudroom HERE. I included one of the inspiration photos below just for a quick recap.
Fireplace Makeover
After 18 months of talking through all of our ideas and weighing out all of our options of how we could finally make this fireplace in use in our kitchen, we have finally landed on an idea we both like. I will share it all in a blog post soon because it’s actually one of the first projects we are planning on starting this year. I know many gave suggestions on what to do with the brick, to leave it, to paint it. To add a german shmear effect or limewash. All things we have thought long and hard through, and I have reasons as to why we didn’t end up choosing those options as well, which is why this topic needs to be covered in its’ own designated blog post. Just know that I am very excited and can’t wait to share the plans with you!
Pantry Makeover
Just at the end of our mudroom is our pantry. You guys this pantry is a dream come true. After never having one before, I can honestly say I hope I always have a pantry. To the left is our living room, and to the right is our kitchen and dining room, but just behind that pantry door are built in cabinets and shelves where I have been secretly testing out paint colors to find the perfect dark gray with subtle blue undertones.
There is ZERO natural light in the pantry, just a ceiling light, so finding the perfect color has been a bit of a challenge. Most end up feeling either too blue or too black. But I am determined this year to make a decision and get her painted. More to come on this soon!
Phase 1 of our Bedroom Refresh
While our bedroom is a pretty shade of pale green, I can’t wait to transform this room into “our” space. I would love to make this wall that our bed is on a focal point with some architectural moldings, I’m just not sure yet if that will be part of Phase 1 or Phase 2. But to get things started in here the first thing I plan to do is paint all the walls white. We have the same ceilings in our bedroom as in our home office, so I’m hoping the white walls will have the same effect in here as they did in our home office.
Most of our bedding will stay the same, until we make our new bed. We had already talked about making a new slipcovered bed, so when Cami from Tidbits blog shared her DIY slipcovered bed it was exactly what I was envisioning. She has plans you can purchase (which I did!), so now we can make it when we are ready.
I have been holding off on hanging curtains knowing that I wanted to paint our room, so you can imagine how much of an impact not only a fresh coat of paint will be, but also the addition of hanging curtains in our room as well. I do plan on bringing in some color with throw pillows, and eventually swapping out the rug, but for now the plan is a new paint color, hang curtains, and we will see what else that inspires.
New Paint in our Daughters room
Just before we moved from our previous house, we had painted our daughters room the softest shade of blue. I shared her previous room makeover HERE, and when we moved into our new house her room was already painted a pretty teal blue.
She was happy with it when we first moved in, but I knew she is a lot like her mama and would be wanting a change someday. Well that day has arrived, and she is missing the shade of blue from her previous bedroom. While I’m not sure if we are going to use the same exact color, because you know I can’t pass up the opportunity to try out a new color, we are going to get a few samples, her previous bedroom blue included, and then I will let her decide.
She still loves her artwork, but we might be making a few minor tweaks to her furnishings as well. All of this still up in the air as we are still in the early stages of planning out her room refresh.

I just love your home. It reminds me alot of my old house in NY. Trees seclusion and peace. We have an exposed brick wall in our livingroom, which I love. I wouldnt do anything to it but enjoy the comfort it brings. Im glad your finally back, I went through a similar thing this year, where nothing felt right. I live in upstate NY and Thanksgiving was ruined because of 6 ft. of snow. We had it 3 days later.
We celebrated Christmas 4 days after the fact because of 7 ft. of snow. It really put a damper on the holidays. Our kids came home (of coursr) with their kids and it didnt seem to bother them at all. My husband said see all is well. Anyway we all have stuff, just remember you have a family that loves you and that is everything..
All the best Kim XOXO
