Hi Friends!!
Every season has a feeling. Spring always inspires me to throw open the windows, clean every corner, and fill our home with fresh greenery as everything outside begins to bloom. But summer? Summer invites something completely different. Instead of doing more, it reminds me to slow down. As the days grow longer and our schedules become a little less hectic, I find myself wanting our home to reflect that same slower rhythm. I don’t feel the need to constantly decorate or tackle another project. Instead, I make a few intentional changes that help our home feel lighter, simpler, and ready to enjoy.
Over the years, I’ve realized that welcoming a new season into your home doesn’t have to mean buying all new décor. Often it’s the smallest changes that make the biggest impact. If you’ve read my book Making Your Home Meaningful, you know I love encouraging others to embrace each season in simple, intentional ways. I share an entire chapter dedicated to welcoming summer into your home, and today I wanted to give you a little glimpse into how I approach the season in our own house.

Add a Seasonal Pop of Color
Because our home is filled with soft neutral tones throughout the year, I like introducing one color that quietly announces the arrival of a new season.
For summer, that color is almost always blue.

Whether it’s a few throw pillows, a favorite vase, artwork, or even the stack of books on our coffee table, those little hints of blue remind me of the ocean and some of our family’s favorite places to visit each summer.

You don’t have to choose blue, though. Look at the colors already present in your home and think about what feels fresh alongside them. If your home already features richer colors, consider introducing lighter creams, whites, or natural textures to brighten the space for summer. Small changes with colors or patterns often make a room feel completely refreshed.

Bring Summer Indoors with Flowers
One of my favorite ways to celebrate every season is with flowers.

Throughout the summer you’ll almost always find fresh garden flowers arranged throughout our home. Even a simple bouquet on the kitchen table instantly changes the feeling of a room.
If you don’t have a cutting garden yet, grocery store flowers or quality faux stems can create the same welcoming feeling. Because nature always has a way of reminding us what season we’re in.

Set Up Your Home for the Way You Want to Live
One question I always ask myself is: “How can our home serve us better this season?” Summer isn’t meant to be spent constantly cleaning, organizing, or maintaining our spaces. Instead, I want our home to encourage us to actually enjoy it.

Maybe that means simplifying your décor so there’s less to dust. Maybe it’s creating a cozy reading corner. Maybe it’s hanging a hammock, adding comfortable seating to your porch, or setting up a basket with outdoor games that’s ready whenever friends stop by.
The goal isn’t to decorate more. It’s to make it easier to live well.
Create Spaces That Invite Gathering
Summer naturally draws us outdoors, but I still love making sure the inside of our home feels ready for gathering too. Windows open to let the breeze drift through.

Fresh flowers on the table. Simple meals shared with family. A fresh batch of blueberry muffins made from blueberries that were just picked.

These little moments often become the memories we treasure most.
Embrace the Slower Pace
Perhaps my favorite thing about summer is the permission it gives us to slow down. The busy routines of the school year begin to fade, evenings stretch a little longer, and there’s finally room to enjoy life at a different pace.

Our homes can encourage that feeling. Sometimes the best seasonal refresh isn’t another decorating project at all, it’s creating a home that invites rest.

These are just a few of the simple ways I welcome summer into our home each year.
