Living Room Sources

02/20/2015 By Bre

20 Feb

I decided to create posts specifically for each room in our house listing all the sources for each space. So if you are a faithful follower that this may be old news to you. The good news is, I’m hoping this will make it easier to find things on my blog, with an easy to find source list on the sidebar of my blog. That way if you see something you like, but don’t remember where it’s from, you can just click the link on the sidebar, and find things easier! For today, it’s all about out Living room.

If you want to see more how I accomplished our neutral living space, you can catch up on these posts (here, here, and here). My goal for this space was light and airy, lots white paired with weathered wood toned pieces. The final outcome, a fresh farmhouse feel. Details listed below photo.

Love your style! We just built our dream farmhouse. Since the money is all spent, it will take me a while to decorate. ? Do you know the brand and style of your bamboo shades? I want to recreate that look. Also are the curtains IKEA Ritva? I want white, not cream curtains.

Thanks Tiffany! Congrats on the new house! The bamboo shades are from Lowes ๐Ÿ™‚ And yes the Ikea curtains are Ritva. However I did purchase mine about 9 years ago, and I think they have changed the fabric since then, and they are more cream than white.

Hi!! I love love LOVE your style and browsing your feed. I have a paint question. So, we are redoing our den….its a pretty big space but not a ton of natural light and the ceilings are low. Going with a darker shade of wood on the floor and doing an all white shiplap wall. I want an overall look of white on the rest of the walls. Any suggestions? Do you love your halo color? I’ve painted some samples and I kinda like/love classic gray by BM but still not 100% sure. Any feedback would be great!! Thank you so much for being an inspiration! Liz

Hi Liz! I have loved Halo. I’m currently painting over it for a project, but otherwise it’s one of my top favorite colors to paint with. If you don’t have a lot of natural light I would tend to lean towards a light color, however having a white shiplap accent wall might be all you need to keep it feeling bright while the rest of the walls are gray. My advice, head to your local Lowes or Home Depot with a color swatch of each, get some samples made (for around $3 ea.) and paint some sections of your wall with the two colors. I think that will give you a good feel for how it will look in your space. Plus sometimes just seeing it on the wall is all the confirmation you need to make your decision ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope that helps!

I have a design question. I notice you have different flooring from room to room. On some design shows, I’ve heard people talk negatively about that. However, yours looks great! I’m getting ready to get a new kitchen floor so I’m wondering your thoughts on this. I have wood flooring in the house and tile in the kitchen.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Christine, So lets talk about my floors for a minute. I have original hardwood in my living room, faux laminate wood in the dining room (can’t stand), and tile in the kitchen. If it’s something as simple as tile in the kitchen, and hardwood in the living room no buggy. But I despise are 3 different floors, as our rooms all flow from one to another. We have plans to tear up the laminate and refinish the original hardwood underneath, but when the budget allows. Hope that helps!

I have a family hand me down trunk table but it is cedar. Is there any way to get a more weathered wood – grey look? Thanks

Hi Cathy, I had the same thing. Unfortunately cedar tends to pull a lot of red tones out. I used gray stain from Rustoleum and had to re-apply in certain areas that red still poked through. Hope that helps ๐Ÿ™‚

I would love to know your thoughts on the comfort level on the ikea furniture? I know their quality has gotten better over the years but always like hearing reviews on items from actual owners. I’m thinking they will be our next couch purchase. Having slipcovers would be great for kids/dogs! Thanks!

I get asked about ours a lot – granted they are about 9 years old, but I’m thinking I will do a review in a post to cover everything ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi! Love everything about your home. I went to Target to see if I could find those frames used around your tv. LOVE that look! When were they purchased? My family pics are almost identical to yours…outside in a wheat field…so I really need barn-like, rustic frames. Also, I would LOVE to see more of your staircase gallery wall. One of the prettiest I have seen.
    Thank you!!!

OHH Thanks so much April!! I’m hoping to get some better shots of the stairway gallery wall, but might have to wait for better sunlight this spring. So I’m actually been stalking Target as well for more frames like the ones I got, and have not seen any! Poo! I’ve been looking since Christmas, and think their frame selection sucks right now ๐Ÿ™ SO Sorry! I haven’t been recently but HomeGoods sometimes has some good rustic ones too, but again it’s hit or miss. I’m keeping my eyes pealed for target and will shoot you a message if they come out with more ๐Ÿ˜‰

Awesome, Bre! I am looking forward to hearing back from you about frames and I can’t wait to see the gallery wall shots.
LOVE your blog and LOVE your style.

        Blessings,
        April

Love the curtain fabric in what looks to be your dining room… Wondering what it is? The gray and beige fabric…?

Thanks Dana! The dining room is next on my list to source. The fabric is old from Pottery Barn, and they haven’t carried it for a few years now.
