Simplifying our Built-Ins

02/22/2016 By Bre

22 Feb

One of the contributing factors to the clutter in our living room was our built-ins. Those gorgeous half walls in between our living room and dining room. They are so nice to have, until you have to decorate them! It takes time to find just the right pieces, or the right sized knick knacks, but before you know it they can start to feel cluttered, and more of a distraction, than a pretty architectural element in the space. If you are new here, or visiting for the first time, I started the process of Simplifying our Living Room in the beginning of the year. I had shared how lots of elements in the space just started to make it feel like the walls were closing in, and I was craving a simpler ... Read More about Simplifying our Built-Ins

DIY Abstract Art

02/18/2016 By Bre

18 Feb

I mentioned in my Living Room Refresh post that part of simplifying our space, also meant simplifying our wall space too. I think I love gallery walls just as much as the next person. They are such a fun, unique way for me to artistically express my creativeness. My form of art, if you will. However, when the walls start to feel like they are closing in, and things start to feel cluttered, sometimes it can be too much. ... Read More about DIY Abstract Art

Living Room Refresh

02/12/2016 By Bre

12 Feb

It feels so good to refresh a space. I'm so glad I let our living room have some breathing room. I was craving a little change, which I talked about HERE, so when I simplified our living room, it allowed me to bring back only what I absolutely wanted in the space. Of course finding the right shade of bright white paint helped me not rush the process of refreshing our living room, and really added some impact to the refresh. Even though our walls were light before, a fresh coat of paint makes it feel so crisp and bright. I can't wait to see how it will feel in the summer. ... Read More about Living Room Refresh

How to Pick White Paint

02/11/2016 By Bre

11 Feb

After reading all of your feedback from my "white paint fail", it was so nice to know I wasn't the only one who had a hard time finding the perfect shade of white paint. So I thought it would be a great idea to combine all of your great advice, along with the things I learned, to help people pick out the right white paint for them. You see, after reading all of your feedback, I have definitely concluded that not only does the amount of sunlight you have in your room affect your wall color, but your region does too! ... Embracing the Process

02/08/2016 By Bre

8 Feb

Why is it that trying to finish the decor in a space can be so frustrating?! You have an idea, a plan, a vision, but sometimes seeing the completed vision of that space come to fruition takes a while. I know I've shared before about taking risks, and being ok with making mistakes when decorating your spaces before, and it's all apart of this thing called "process". We don't talk a lot about the process, or always show what that process looks like. Who doesn't love a good Before & After, but it's rare we see how we got from the Before to the After. And what happens if you get stuck in the middle? I think the same can be said about life sometimes. We start out with a plan or a dream, and ... Read More about Embracing the Process

Decor for your Kitchen

02/03/2016 By Bre

3 Feb

Do you have a hard time decorating your kitchen? Whether you struggle will wall space, or countertop space, decorating your kitchen doesn't have to be tricky. Since your kitchen is one of the hardest working rooms in your house, incorporating decor that is not only pretty but functional is key! Who wants to waste needed countertop space with items that just collect dust? Decorating your kitchen doesn't have to be tricky, the key is picking pieces that are pretty and that work for you. A staple on our island is always our farmhouse mug drying rack. I love that it adds the farmhouse feel with decor, but also works for us. It's a great way to display pretty mugs and cups, that are at a hands ... Read More about Decor for your Kitchen

Adding a Focal Point

Adding a Focal Point

02/02/2016 By Bre

2 Feb

One of the main pieces that can ground a room, and make it feel complete, can also be the most over looked - Adding a Focal Point. When we don't add a focal point in our design, we miss out on a big chance to share our uniqueness with everyone who comes into that space. Think of it as a free pass to share your creative style with those around you. Not only is adding a focal point a great way to share your style with everyone, it's also a great way to complete a space. I remember when I was in the process of re-vamping our living room the first time, and as I looked around our space I thought a lot about what kind of accessories I wanted to bring into the space that would truly reflect me, ... How to Style a Coffee Table

01/30/2016 By Bre

30 Jan

It's no secret around here that I love to create tablescapes. I create a new one for each season, and sometimes multiple ones in between. I even hosted a thanksgiving tablescape tour this past fall, and had a bunch of my friends join in with me on the fun and share their tablescapes. While creating tablescapes are fun, and truly a way I express my creative art, styling a coffee table is much different. When I create a tablescape, I'm envisioning a space that is inviting and interesting for my guests. A place that is elegant and beautiful for all to sit and enjoy. However, most of the time when creating a tablescape they are temporary. So their design can be a bit more elaborate because it ... Read More about How to Style a Coffee Table

Best of 2015 & Goals for 2016

01/28/2016 By Bre

28 Jan

I know I already shared my highlights from 2015, but I thought it would be fun if I round up a few of my friends and interviewed them to see what their favorite projects from 2015 were, and what is one project they are looking forward to accomplishing in 2016. Sounds fun right?! Let's get started! ... Read More about Best of 2015 & Goals for 2016

My White Paint Fail

01/25/2016 By Bre

25 Jan

If you've been following along lately, than you know this month I've been all about simplifying our home, and refreshing our living room. Well right around Christmas I decided I was brave enough to give this whole "white paint" thing a whirl. I did my research, read plenty of reviews and posts done by other designers and bloggers. Whenever I get ready to repaint a room, the first thing I do is head straight to pinterest and search the paint color I'm thinking of going with. ... Read More about My White Paint Fail

Your Questions Answered about our White Sofa

01/22/2016 By Bre

22 Jan

I got such a great response from everyone about our new sofa in the living room. So many of you shared your questions and concerns with me, I was so glad that my review on our new sofa was helpful. It can certainly be a daunting task buying a new couch, never mind trying to buy one online that you haven't even sat in. And when everywhere you turn people are reviewing their IKEA slipcovered couches, it may makes you wonder why anyone would buy something else. I am certainly not knocking the IKEA couch, I was a proud owner of one for 10 years. It's a great buy when you want to spruce up a space and don't want to spend a lot, or if you were like us and just starting out, you can fill a whole ... How to Simplify your Home

01/21/2016 By Bre

21 Jan

It's funny how our knick knacks can creep in on us. One day we are browsing through HomeGoods picking up one or two tiny little trinkets the make our hearts beat a little fast, and before we know it we have shelves and bookcases, and mantles covered  with far too many things. Now I do have some storage places that I rotate things in and out of, to change up a vignette on the fly without having to run to the store. But what happens when it all just starts feeling like too much? I wouldn't say my style has completely changed since we moved into our house almost 5 years ago, but it has evolved. I've walked closer to the style I want, and further from the style that I had to just simply fill a ... Read More about How to Simplify your Home
