I had a completely different post planned for today, but when Facebook pops up in your feed with a memory from 5 years ago, I knew I wanted to share that instead. Not because I want to boast on how far I’ve come, but it’s important to look back on where we have come from. To take a moment and soak in the hard work and time we’ve invested to get to where we are today. You’ve heard the expression “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and I think the same is definitely true in blogging. I’ve shared my thoughts about comparison HERE, and nothing can wreck you more in the blogging industry than comparing yourself to someone else’s accomplishments. I think it’s so important that we take a moment, and stop to look back and see just how far we’ve come. Not only does it help give us a sense of accomplishment, but it propels us into moving forward with fresh motivation.
How I Refresh our Living Room for Fall
If you are like me, and you don’t necessarily gravitate towards big seasonal changes in your decor, than this post is for you. To decorate for fall, I may not be running for the first orange pumpkin I see, or orange plaid throw blanket, there are steps I take to refresh our living room for fall. Today I’m going to share with you some of my thought process that goes behind how I refresh our spaces as the seasons change.
Why I Love Home in the Fall {bHome}
The dust has settled. You know that gets kicked up with kids going back to school and summer ending. Well maybe it’s just the last bit of beach sand being shaken out from our car, but life finally feels like it is in somewhat of a routine, and the air is crisp with fall. I’m teaming up with my friends at bHome to share a little bit more of fall around our home.
Farmhouse Fall Living Room
This year has been about simplifying. Not adding more, but really emphasizing on special details. It’s easy to feel the need to add a ton to your decor when decorating for new seasons, however I chose to make subtle transitions to gradually add fall into our living room. We are back for another round of Farmhouse Holiday Decor Series. Today we are sharing our Living Rooms decorated for fall.
New Rug in the Dining Room
I finally pulled the trigger on getting a rug for our dining room. I’ve been contemplating different options for a couple years now. Yes YEARS, you read that right. If I’ve learned anything in design, it’s not to rush the process. Don’t make haste decisions that you aren’t 100% confident in. Not only can you potentially waste money, you waste time and energy on a piece that wasn’t meant to be, and it end up stunting your decision to make the right choice because you live with “good enough” for far too long. I actually had a completely different rug picked out for this room, so let me tell you why I ended up pulling the trigger on not only a different color than my original choice, but also a much bolder pattern!
Kitchen Ceiling Wallpaper REVEALED
You can catch all the details in the “tutorial” post as to why I decided to go with wallpaper vs. real or faux bead board. While I don’t think installing wallpaper to a ceiling is for the faint at heart. Once I figured out the right formula of soaking the wall paper, allowing the paste to activate, and cutting the right lengths, it went up pretty quickly! Are you ready to see the results?!
How to Install Wallpaper on your Ceiling
I have been wanting to add bead board to the ceiling in our kitchen since, OH about FOREVER! There are plenty of options out there for installing bead board, and for the most part non are super pricey. They more differ in difficulty and the tools needed to install. I’ve always loved the look, and even though the hubby was on board, his plate has been so full I couldn’t see him having time any time in the near future to tackle this project. One of the options I always kept in min was using bead board wallpaper, and so that was exactly the route I decided to go. The ceiling in our kitchen was smooth, so using wallpaper was a perfect solution.
Fall Decor Sneak Peak with Vol. 25
I know in some areas kids are headed back to school. We still have another 3 weeks to go before school starts for us, however I did just drop off kindergarten registration forms today for my baby! Our kindergarten is a full day program, and they go to school just like the rest of elementary kids, so we are pretty excited around here for both kiddos to be in school. Honestly I think they are more excited than I am, which makes me love the school they go to even more. So even though we aren’t headed back to school, I wanted to share a sneak peak of the look and feel we are going for this fall. I’m so excited about this, because one of my favorite shops Vol. 25, just launched their fall collection “Haven”, and it is full of beautiful prints to help you welcome fall in your home too!
