Recently I was chatting with a friend about her home, and she was sharing with me how she had all sorts of ideas on things she wanted to do in her new home, but that she was afraid of making the wrong choice. Sound familiar? I think we all experience decorating paralysis at one time or another. In some areas we can be so sure of our design choices, but in other areas we can get so stuck second guessing ourselves that we feel paralyzed to the point where we can’t even make a decision out of fear we will make the wrong one. Have you been there? I know I have, even with our new house. But I’ve also learned the gift of making a mistake when it comes to decorating my home, so today I’m sharing about making mistakes with our home decor, and the gift that comes from taking chances.
Gallery Wall Tutorial + Sources
One of my favorite ways to decorate that reflects our personal style is with a gallery wall. Whether you use artwork, or family photos, what we choose to hang on our walls can say a lot about who we are, and reflect what we love. If you have a lot of wall space in your home, hanging a collection of smaller frames in a grouping to create a gallery is an easy way to fill a space, and can often times be more affordable than a large piece of artwork. I recently tweaked the frames I have hanging over our console table in our living room to create a larger grouping of frames, so today I’m sharing how I created this gallery wall and sources for the frames and artwork I used.
Decorating Ideas that Reflect Your Personal Style
Now that I have been living with my home in clean slate mode for a little bit, I’m ready to start bringing back my everyday decor into our spaces. The pieces that we live with day in and day out. The ones that I feel like they truly reflect our personal style. I started thinking about why I choose the pieces I have, and how they reflect our personal style, and it got me thinking. How are you feeling about your own home decor right now? Now that Christmas is behind us and put away, and spring has yet to come. How are you feeling about the decor in your home? Are you ready for a refresh? Do you feel like something is missing? Today I’m sharing my top decorating ideas for how to decorate your home so that it reflects your personal style.
A Clean Slate for the New Year
Happy New Year!! I hope your New Year is off to a great start! I have been embracing the post-holiday “slow down”, and finding contentment in doing less these days. There are a few things that I like to do at the start of every new year in our home. And as I’ve learned to embrace winter, and find comfort in the stillness, I am beginning to looking forward to this time of the year more and more. So in case you have found yourself in a post-holiday slump or fog, I wanted to share my process with you and the steps I take to create a clean slate for the new year. Today it’s all about the home, and next I will be sharing how I do this process in my life personally as well.
Finding Contentment with our Homes
Do you struggle with finding contentment in your home? Perhaps you are in a season of life where your living room is covered with toddler toys, or the room makeovers you’ve been dreaming to accomplish haven’t found room yet in the budget to be completed? I would be lying if I told you that I’ve never struggled with this feeling – I completely have. Friend, I am no stranger to these feelings, I only know how real they can be and how loud they can get inside our heads. I have definitely struggled with these feelings more than once over the past 10 years – almost 20 if I’m thinking back to my first apartment, and over the past almost two decades, I’ve learned a few ways to fight back the feelings of discontentment and to fall in love with the four walls that surround me once again.
New Home Office
Today I am sharing with you a brand new space from our (new to us) home. One that you have not seen before, and didn’t even make the cut in the New Home Tour (shared HERE), or the New Home Tour video (shown HERE). This room is located in the front of our house, just off of the kitchen, and when we first moved in it served as a space to hold moving boxes we were still going through. It was great to be able to shove some boxes off to the side (out of sight) when we first moved in and were unpacking, which is why this room never made the cut. But I’m happy to say we now have this room up and functioning as a home office, and I can’t wait for to see the transformation!

I debated on whether I should share something I loved most about our previous home, or if I should share something I love most about our new home. Of course there is much to love about our new home, but I will be honest, none of the rooms feel quite finished yet. But I am a big believer in progress. Small tiny changes that make an impact over time, and new living room is getting so close! So today I’m sharing our living room progress, and the steps I’ve taken along the way.
Mudroom Inspiration
of a clean slate state, with minimal decor out, now is the perfect time to dream up some new inspiration. So today I’m sharing the mudroom inspiration I’ve gathered, and the vision I have for this space.
Oatmeal Linen Curtains | Our New Drapes for the Living Room
I know choosing window treatments can be hard. Trust me I get it, there are so many options to consider. What style fabric to choose, and at what length. And how high and how wide do I hang my curtain rods. Do I use curtain rings with eyelets or clips? Do you hang curtains with a valance or no valance? And what about shades? Do you see what I mean? The options are endless, but there are a few things that I like to ask myself first to help me narrow down my selection. Come and see how I hang curtains, and our new oatmeal linen drapes in the living room.
