Hello Friends! Today I’m pretending like you and I are sitting down with a cup of coffee. I’d say on my couch in my living room, but since we are all supposed to be social distancing right now I’m thinking that would be considered taboo? So we are just going to have a virtual cup of coffee together instead, and I’m going to imagine we are chatting just like I would be with my closest gal-pal about all the struggles of being home right now, and what I’m doing to stay sane. Hello Friends!! So many of you commented on my Kitchen post I shared over the weekend, and it truly is amazing to see how much our kitchen has transformed since we bought this house 9 years ago! ACK! Our kitchen was never in rough shape, it was more like builder quality, had nothing fancy, and was fit with just the basic level quality cabinets. What sold me on our kitchen was that those basic cabinets were white – which meant I didn’t have to paint them, and it was much bigger than our apartment kitchen, and I loved that too! So today I’m sharing how I added character to our kitchen, in the way of transforming our “wall of doors”.

I mentioned in yesterdays post how one of the ways I love to add layers into my rooms is by layering area rugs. Now I get that this isn’t always doable at first when you are decorating, because affording one new area rug can be pricey on it’s own. But when looking for areas to add more layers to your spaces this is a great way to achieve that layered look we all desire, without over complicating things. In my last post I broke things down and shared how I add layers into our Living Room decor to create that cozy and inviting feeling you see. I started by removing all the added decor from our Living Room and stripped the room down to the bare essentials. Our sofa and area rug were all that remained. One of the statements I hear most often regarding our home, is how cozy our living room looks. It truly is my most favorite space in our entire house, and I love how warm and inviting it feels in person too. One look at our couch, and it’s just asking you to come and plop down in between the layers of throw pillows and take a load off. Whenever I’m relaxing in this space I always find myself letting out a big exhale and admiring the room I’ve created. One of the things I believe that is a key contributor in making this space so cozy and inviting are the layers I’ve carefully added over the years. I didn’t realize while I was in the middle of the process, but every time I would analyze what was missing in our living room it would always come back to the layered look I’ve acquired. So today I’m sharing just how I added layers in our living room, and why I think they are key to making any space cozy and inviting.

I’ve been sharing this week how our home is currently in “clean state” mode. The last of the Christmas decor bins have been brought down to the basement. I put away any of the throw pillow covers that I used for Christmas, and have found myself in no rush to bring back my everyday decor I had out before Christmas. Sometimes it’s nice to start the new year off with a clean slate visually and mentally in our homes. Not allowing anything to rush us into making decisions too quickly, or decorating for that matter. Nothing that visually clutters our mind, but really just allows us a little breathing room.
