In my last post I broke things down and shared how I add layers into our Living Room decor to create that cozy and inviting feeling you see. I started by removing all the added decor from our Living Room and stripped the room down to the bare essentials. Our sofa and area rug were all that remained. Then I shared step by step how I add pieces back into our living room – layer by layer. So many of the pieces of decor that I have in our living room I consider my home decor staples, so today I’m sharing my favorite home decor staples, that I love to use when adding layers to the rooms in our home.
How I add Layers in our Living Room
One of the statements I hear most often regarding our home, is how cozy our living room looks. It truly is my most favorite space in our entire house, and I love how warm and inviting it feels in person too. One look at our couch, and it’s just asking you to come and plop down in between the layers of throw pillows and take a load off. Whenever I’m relaxing in this space I always find myself letting out a big exhale and admiring the room I’ve created. One of the things I believe that is a key contributor in making this space so cozy and inviting are the layers I’ve carefully added over the years. I didn’t realize while I was in the middle of the process, but every time I would analyze what was missing in our living room it would always come back to the layered look I’ve acquired. So today I’m sharing just how I added layers in our living room, and why I think they are key to making any space cozy and inviting.
5 Ways to Refresh your Space
I know I’ve been sharing a lot lately about how much I love to purge and clean out our spaces during these winter months. Once the holidays are behind us, and all the Christmas decor is brought back down to the basement, I love to look at the rooms in our home with a fresh set of eyes. Naturally all the blank spaces left behind from holiday decorations being taken down has me wanting to refresh our space. So today I’m sharing 5 ways you can refresh your space, with little to no money being spent.
How I Refresh our Entire House for the New Year
I’ve been sharing this week how our home is currently in “clean state” mode. The last of the Christmas decor bins have been brought down to the basement. I put away any of the throw pillow covers that I used for Christmas, and have found myself in no rush to bring back my everyday decor I had out before Christmas. Sometimes it’s nice to start the new year off with a clean slate visually and mentally in our homes. Not allowing anything to rush us into making decisions too quickly, or decorating for that matter. Nothing that visually clutters our mind, but really just allows us a little breathing room.
Our Living Room throughout the Year
Hello Friends!! With the holidays behind us, I brought the last bins of Christmas decor down to our basement – today! Thankfully, it was mostly the Christmas decor from the kids room, but it feels so good to have the house back down to a clean slate. I just finished swapping over my pillow covers, back to something neutral for the winter months, and it got me thinking about all the little changes I do in our living room throughout the year. I know you see it when I share our living room for each seasonal tour, but I thought it would be fun to point out how I change things from season to season, all rounded up in one post. Sort of a Before & After, but more or less just the After’s. So today I’m sharing the different looks our living room has throughout the year.

Inspiration for Every Room
I’m so glad that my last post resonated with so many of you! It sparked quite the topic of conversation when I originally asked the question on Instagram, and after reading so many great responses, I knew I wasn’t alone. It’s hard with Pinterest sometimes to feel like our homes don’t always look quite as perfect, or are feeling a little less then “Pinterest – worthy” views, but I believe that even in those perfect homes, there is something the homeowner doesn’t like.
The “Not-So” Perfect Home
I asked this question on Instagram last week because I had a hunch! There I was sitting one night scrolling through the gram, and it hit me – “I bet everyone has at least one area in their home that they aren’t happy with” I thought to myself. Or at least they weren’t happy with it until they fixed it! You know that problem area that you either over decorate to try and “hide” it, or completely ignore it determined it will always be a non-pretty area in your home, hoping that if you ignore it enough others might not see it too. Well the response was resounding, and here’s what people had to say!
