At the beginning of each year, I sit down and write out a project wish list for our home. While some of these projects have been on my wish list since we moved in, taking the time to sit down and rewrite the list, noticing the projects that have been completed, and the ones yet to be tackled, helps me organize my thoughts and what I hope to accomplish around our home in the coming year. Just like my personal goals, our home goals aren’t about rushing or checking things off a list as quickly as possible. They’re about creating spaces that feel thoughtful, functional, and full of character — spaces that support everyday life while still feeling special.
My Personal Goals for 2026
At the start of each year, I take time to write down goals that feel meaningful for the season ahead. Not as a checklist to perfect, but as a guide to help me live with intention. These goals quietly shape my days, influence my priorities, and remind me of what I want to be mindful of as the year unfolds. If you read my previous post about the power of writing things down, this post is a continuation of that conversation. Today, I’m sharing my personal goals for 2026, not because I have it all figured out, but because writing them down (and sharing them) helps keep my heart and focus aligned.
Creating a Clean Slate at Home for the New Year
Happy New Year! I’ve always loved the feeling of a fresh start that comes with the new year—a new calendar, a new planner, and the sense that anything is possible. Once the Christmas decorations are taken down and put away, I like to let our home sit in that in-between space for a bit—simple, open, and calm. Before I start adding more layers back in, I take time to reset our home and thoughtfully consider what’s working and what needs a little extra attention.
Gallery Wall Tutorial + Sources
One of my favorite ways to decorate that reflects our personal style is with a gallery wall. Whether you use artwork, or family photos, what we choose to hang on our walls can say a lot about who we are, and reflect what we love. If you have a lot of wall space in your home, hanging a collection of smaller frames in a grouping to create a gallery is an easy way to fill a space, and can often times be more affordable than a large piece of artwork. I recently tweaked the frames I have hanging over our console table in our living room to create a larger grouping of frames, so today I’m sharing how I created this gallery wall and sources for the frames and artwork I used.
How I Refresh our Entire House for the New Year
I’ve been sharing this week how our home is currently in “clean state” mode. The last of the Christmas decor bins have been brought down to the basement. I put away any of the throw pillow covers that I used for Christmas, and have found myself in no rush to bring back my everyday decor I had out before Christmas. Sometimes it’s nice to start the new year off with a clean slate visually and mentally in our homes. Not allowing anything to rush us into making decisions too quickly, or decorating for that matter. Nothing that visually clutters our mind, but really just allows us a little breathing room.
