Fall is in the air friend, and with that I begin to turn my focus from being outside in the garden to back in doors. Fall inside our home means preparing for winter. Extra blankets get put back on beds that were tucked away from summers warmer months, and chunky knit throw blankets get tucked in baskets so they are at arms reach. I swap out my throw pillow covers in the living room with hues that feel more like fall, and candles get swapped out too from scents island margarita to harvest apple spice. I like to focus on all the cozy senses of fall, since for me it is all about nesting, and making our home feel comfortable as we prepare for the colder months ahead spent indoors.
Come and see ~
It doesn’t take much to change the atmosphere in your home. From the light airy days of summer, to that warm autumn glow, I like to put away the colors and knick knacks that feel more like summer to me, and bring out warmer muted tones for fall.
I put away any of the greenery I have had out from the previous spring and summer seasons, and reach for rust colored stems and dried wheat grasses. Pinecones are another staple for me, because they can last all through winter. I love to place them in shallow bowls, or hurricane vases with candles.
Our console table in our living room is the perfect spot to highlight seasonal changes. It’s one of the first places I decorate for a new season. Faux fall stems reflect the leaves changing outside my window, and to help things stay neutral, I add in some white pumpkins. I finish it off with a pumpkin spice candle, and this simple vignette speaks fall to me all season long.
In our dining room …
I love to scatter white pumpkins all around.
On our hutch, I kept most of my display serving pieces out, while adding a few extras like an antique silver platter and gravy boat for a little more of that rusty charm. I filled in around my serving pieces with tiny white pumpkins, and some dried wheat grass for fall.
On our dining room table I created a simple fall centerpiece using a plaid throw blanket gathered in the center. The I layered two wooden cutting boards on top to help give my large white pumpkin in the center a little height.
I tucked in a few faux maple branches, and some more mini white pumpkins on either side.
When decorating for fall, I like to keep things simple, and focus on the things that bring my senses to life. I look to nature, the scents I fill my home with, and lots of cozy texture that will keep us warm all through the winter months. I even like to swap out some of my artwork, so when I move around our home it “feels” like fall everywhere I look.
Have you decorated for fall yet? What vignettes have you created, or happy cozy moments to help you savor in this season?
