Hello Friends! Do you struggle with finding contentment in your home? Perhaps you are in a season of life where your living room is covered with toddler toys, or the room makeovers you've been dreaming to accomplish haven't found room yet in the budget to be completed? I would be lying if I told you that I've never struggled with this feeling - I completely have. Friend, I am no stranger to these feelings, I only know how real they can be and how loud they can get inside our heads. I have definitely struggled with these feelings more than once over the past 10 years - almost 20 if I’m thinking back to my first apartment, and over the past almost two decades, I’ve learned a few ways to ... How I Refresh our Entire House for the New Year
I've been sharing this week how our home is currently in "clean state" mode. The last of the Christmas decor bins have been brought down to the basement. I put away any of the throw pillow covers that I used for Christmas, and have found myself in no rush to bring back my everyday decor I had out before Christmas. Sometimes it's nice to start the new year off with a clean slate visually and mentally in our homes. Not allowing anything to rush us into making decisions too quickly, or decorating for that matter. Nothing that visually clutters our mind, but really just allows us a little breathing room. Today, I'm sharing how I refresh our entire house for the New Year. ... When Dreams Collide
I wrote this post a couple years ago, but wanted to re-share it, because so many of you wrote me about how my recent "Mom Failure" post resonated with you. I know I love to share about decor and pretty spaces, but I think when it comes to creating a meaningful home, it helps to know where that stems from in a person, and we can get to know people a little more. So today I'm sharing more on my dreams of becoming a mom and decorating homes, and how the two collide. ... Read More about When Dreams Collide
Chalkboard Door Farewell
The chalkboard door is gone! Yep. Now wait, before you start thinking to yourself "oh now, is that the one in her kitchen?". No, it is not the one in our kitchen. Shortly after I started blogging, I was DIY'ing everything. Anything and everything I could get my hands on, and you better believe I was making and creating up a storm. Some of it good, and some of it not so hot. I was thrilled just to have a home that I could create in, and this new found liberation blogging gave me of being able to try new things and decorate and even though I didn't have a degree, and actually have people like that things I was doing, kept me on a creative high for a long time. Almost to the point of burnout, ... Read More about Chalkboard Door Farewell
A Year in Review {2017}
It's always fun to look back over the past year. As the new year approaches, and we wind down from the holidays. The last Christmas cookie is digested, and my pants seem to have gotten 2 sizes smaller in ONE week, I look forward to the New Year with great anticipation. With the kids home on from school on Christmas break, and family visiting, we have spent our days soaking in our time together, and it truly has been so much fun. However, I told my husband the other day, that this structure loving person is craving some routine. I never realized how much I crave routine, until it's gone! With 2018 right around the corner, I always love to look back over the past year. There is something about ... Read More about A Year in Review {2017}
I had a Dream …
It's funny, looking back, how clearly I can remember always wanting to be a mom. I can remember being asked as a young girl, and early teenager what I wanted to do when I grew up, and my answer was simple, "be a mom". It wasn't until I was in high school that that answer was no longer the only answer people would accept. I would get responses like "yes you can be a mom, but what else do you want to do?" or "Of course you will be a mom, but what do you want to do for a career". Even though their question changed, my answer still stayed the same. To the point that when it came time to start thinking about college, I boldly told my parents I didn't need to go to college because I was going to ... Read More about I had a Dream …
New Console Table
Hello Friends! Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on my post about Progress that I shared earlier this week! It's so nice to know that others feel the same way, especially when it comes to not having everything perfectly finished. I've gotten many questions about the new console table in our living room (also shown in yesterday's post), so today I'm sharing more about our new console table! It's a funny story, I actually shared on Instagram, how after I sanded down the boards I wanted the table to be made from, I went to the store to run some errands and came back to the table being completely built. Thank you hubby for your prompt building skills! This table really was one ... Read More about New Console Table
Real Estate Photos vs. Blog Photos
Hello Friends!! Today I thought it would be fun to take a look at just how different real estate photos can be vs. the style of photos I take, or magazines take to share our home. It's always so funny to me that pictures showing the same room can look so different. As we got closer to putting our house on the market, the one thing I kept wondering about was how the real estate listing photos would look, and would they really be that different from the photos I take and share of our home. Come and take a look ~ ... Read More about Real Estate Photos vs. Blog Photos
My Real-Life Fear
If you were to come over my house for coffee in real life, it's probably safe to assume that our house will look very similar to the photos you've seen online. Sure it always feels a little different to actually see a place in person than through the online looking glass you may have grown familiar with, but you would find things to appear pretty much the way they do here on the blog. I'd greet you at our kitchen door with a big smile, and a "Come on in!", which would then follow with the biggest hug you've probably had in a long time. It's true, you can ask anyone who has visited our home, I am a total hugger. But behind that smile lies a "real-life" fear. ... Read More about My Real-Life Fear
